This was an incredible hike! There was an amazing view from the rocks at the top, and 10 and 6 year old did the whole trail with minimal complaining. There were many awesome sights to see, and the forestry surrounding us for most of the hike. But just to warn you, there were quite a few sections where you have to clamber over large rocks, which is a major trip hazard. This was definitely a five star hike.

We really enjoyed this hike! Lots of rocks to maneuver over, but our six year old made it work. The incline was not extreme and the main part of the trail offered a great deal of shade. The best part was the rocky overlook, which could be easy to miss. We started the loop walking to the left from the parking lot. At about the halfway point, just before you hit the Charcoal Trail, there is a rocky fall out to the left. From the main trail, you can see that the rocks lead to an opening. This area offered the best view of the hike! The second half of the hike was lovely, but you could see the highway. Although, you could also see the river. All in all, a great time!

This trail was definitely rocky and a little confusing, not marked so well but using this app with the GPS map helped. The views were pretty good but you do see a lot of the highway.

This was probably a 3.5 rating. It was good, nice 4 mile walk. Elevation was more gradual, not super steep. Trails were open. Sights were okay, looking more at the highway than actual valley. There were 5 of us and a Boston Terrier. Scrambles were easy, plenty of room on sides to walk if you didn’t want to walk on rock. Good workout, maybe 2 hours at max. I would do it again for the work out, definitely not the sights. Pleasant surrounding area, there is a nature museum there with picnic tables so bring a lunch. On the drive there we passed a couple boat launches as well as a bike path too.

First time hiking solo. Hiking boots would definitely help. Thankful that I have poles.

We did part of the charcoal and prairie loop. The grass was God awful high and itchy. There is no shade. I guess it definitely like crossing the prairie in the heat of summer.
