Buck Trail bisects the Natural Area. Traveling east to west, it is situated on the highest elevations in the park, providing some of the most spectacular views of the valleys to the north. You are truly in the barrens when hiking this trail. The trail also features several abandon mine pits. Road access is available on the west end, while the east end is accessible from other trails that connect it to the parking lot. Chrome Trail leaves the parking lot then connects to Doe Trail, then Buck trail or the extreme end of Buck Trail by way of the Fire Break Trails. The trail system can be complicated to first time visitors, but makes for an interesting hike. The Serpentine Barons are definitely different than any other hikes in this general area, and worth a look. The history of the mines adds an element of intrigue.

Nice forest trails with varying degrees of steepness. Not much in the way of unique landmarks other than he feldspar quarry but still a great way to escape into nature for a couple hours.

We had a great time walking around the trails with our dog. It was nice that she didn't have to be on a leash. This was my wife's first time hiking and she did pretty good.

Loved this park, I connected multiple trails to make a loop. No crowds at all. I saw tons of wildlife while hiking the trails.

I took the trail from west to east, starting in the forested section. Shortly in there is a steep climb and there is a lot of up and down along this trail. Most of the trail is gravel or exposed bedrock but in some places I was glad to have my boots and not just sneakers. Not much shade even in the forested section, so don't forget your hat.

Great park, large well kept serpentine barrens, like going to a different state, completely different from the rest of PA. The trails in the barrens have ZERO shade so I recommend spring and fall. Rolling hills, grasses and a few trees. if you are not familiar I would read up a little one this unique ecosystem before you go, you will appreciate it more.

been here several times to train my dogs for Sar activities. Nice, be carefully in hunting season. I still can't find the horse trails. Picked up alot of ticks in the summer. Nice never seen it crowded. Great place for geocaching.
hope you enjoy, maybe well see you there, if you do you could hide and let my dogs track you down. haha
