Getting There

The Bayfront Connector Trail, also known as the Bayfront Bikeway, offers a paved route across the city of Erie in northwestern Pennsylvania. At its east end is the Penn State Behrend campus; from there, the trail continues downhill following the Bayfront Connector, a four-lane expressway, to Frontier Park on the west end of town. Along the way, the trail offers an eclectic mix of cityscapes, wooded stretches, and lake views. The Lake Erie Arboretum at Frontier Park, which offers a wealth of educational programming and events, is a highlight of the trip. Although the pathway ends at Frontier Park, you could continue on the bikeway along Sixth Street to reach Presque Isle State Park, a beautiful peninsula park offering more than 3,000 acres to explore and sandy beaches along Lake Erie.

Parking is near the Penn State Behrend Tennis Courts- 5168 Behrend College Dr, Erie, PA.

Rode entire trail from frontier park to PSU behrend and back. It’s slightly uphill from west to east but not difficult. A nice relaxing ride (especially east to west) with varied scenery. Nice views of presque isle bay, old industrial sites and woods. I was pleasantly surprised but I wouldn’t suggest driving long distances just to do this trail. If you are in the Erie area it is worth a ride though. Park near the western terminus of the trail because it is easy to miss the actual trail from the eastern side of frontier park. Once you get on the trail you shouldn’t have problems finding your way.

Well maintanied and easy to bike trail through Erie. It's almost entirely downhill, so this is great for children and adults alike. There's a lot of trails that connect, especially near downtown Erie, that allow for some really cool vistas of the harbor.
