Bark Slide Trail is a short section (less than one mile) of the 25 km and 50 km Green Monster Trail System in Tioga County. Accessing the trailhead at its junction with Oil Well Hollow on the southern end is a challenge. Best bet is to park at the intersection of Baldwin Road and Spoor Hollow Rd, hike south on the well blazed Green Monster Trail, turn left on seldom used Canada Run Road for less than 100 yards, turn right on Oil Well Hollow (still on the GM Trail) and follow it up to Bark Slide Trail, which T's on the right. Now you're in for a real climb. The trail ascends 501 feet in just one-half mile. There are two switchbacks, but they're near the top, which gives some relief to your now tiring legs. There are two other accesses to this trail. It's possible to drive up Canada Run, but a 4-wheel drive is recommended, especially because you'll be fording the stream (no bridge) on the lower end. The other access is from the top. We call this he wimp route. Park at the intersection of Matson Road and Baldwin Road and hike Matson Trail to the top of Bark Slide Hollow. If you park a vehicle at the bottom of Canada Run Road you'll have made this an easy downhill hike of about three miles.
