Great veiws! there are three great campsites on the north side of the mountain in the grassy area close to the east part of the trail. there is also a spot about a mile down the AT from the east. AT section is pretty smooth hiking with a couple uphills. the scenic section has nice veiws and just a little rocky on spots.

A good friend and I decide to do this trail at the last minute instead of backpacking at the Pinnacle, and I’m glad we did! The trail starts off with a pretty decent uphill section, on which you’ll pass the George W. Outerbridge shelter and it’s accompanying spring. We started from the parking lot just across the bridge in Slatington, but if starting at the Lehigh Gap Nature Center, a stream can be found on the Woodpecker Trail as well if there has been sufficient rainfall. These are the only two water sources nearby, so plan accordingly. After reaching the top of the ridge, the trail levels out and becomes open and grassy, and some VERY nice campsites can be found! The trail overlooks the towns of Lehighton, Bowmanstown, and Palmerton, and the views while hiking are excellent! After passing the last communications tower, the trail enters the woods, and begins a long gradual downhill along the Appalachian Trail back to the starting point.

Definitely a great workout as the climb to the top is pretty steep if you're a beginner hiker or just getting in shape. It was made more difficult as it was extremely rocky in a lot of parts and with rain and fog visibility was low and things were slippery. Prob should not have gone alone as I only saw a few other people in the safe house and felt eerily alone. Disappointed the summit was completely covered in fog but I knew that going in. Trails were easy to make out and well marked.

Admittedly did not finish this trail due to the day being hotter than expected and the first part of the trail quite a climb. Levels off toward the top but we were already low on water so turned around. We’ll be back!
