Getting There

The Delaware Water Gap is the spot on the PA/NJ border were the mighty Delaware river turns sharply East in its course and cuts through the Appalachian Mountains. There are a couple of nice spots just below the summit of Mt. Minsi that provide lovely views of this feature as well as of Mount Tammany. The old fire tower on Minsi's summit is long gone, only the base of the concrete pillars remains. There is however a massive, fenced-in radio tower further west along the trail. The turn-around point of this Hike, Tott's Gap is little more than a dip in the ridgeline where the AT passes across the corner of an old stone building foundation.

Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area, (570) 588-2451, www.nps.gov/dewa

Heading East on Interstate 80 towards Stroudsburg, take the exit for Route 611 South. Drive 0.6 miles on 611 South to a stoplight in the town of Delaware Water Gap, PA, and make a left, staying on 611 South. Go another 0.3 miles and make a right onto Mountain Rd. Another 0.1 miles, and you take a left at the fork in the road. Park at the Lake Lenape parking lot.

It was alright! Arrive early to get parking. Hiking shoes are a must— the way down is harder on the feet than you might think

Not for beginners. this is our first time going to the Appalachian trails and the trails are very rocky. The scenery was really good they have a good amount of resting areas but, there are a lot a lot a lot of rocks!!! We almost tripped a few times. Overall really nice hike. the left side is the more difficult side, however that's where all the iconic and senic views are! I saw kids hiking this trail too but, I'm not really sure if that's really safe. it's very rocky, you can slip, trip or fall so be careful.

Great hike! Definitely a workout. Took the left side on the way up and it was much more enjoyable. Lots of rock scrambling early but easier way home. The end point is a little anticlimactic but still worth it.

HikingGreat!

This was a beautiful hike and a fantastic workout. We did it in 4 hours and 39 mins and is was 10.36 miles. One word of caution...take the white blaze trail (left) at the loop so that you’re going uphill for the rock scrambles. It made the hike down less taxing. Hiking boots are a must!!t

We stayed to the right of the loop in and out circling back around. The AT trail was nice and relaxing this time of year. Not crowded. The loop was crowded. Hit the Delaware side around 3:30pm right now and the sun is setting behind you. Quite beautiful!

It can be considered in the difficult side, however the views are well worth it. Recommended, bring proper shoes, it is rocky all the way.

Good hike. We took our time and did 9 miles in 4 hours. Pretty rocky at points. Wear proper shoes and bring plenty of water. The views were great and for the most part hikers were respectful of each other.

Awesome, went off the trail a few times (on purpose), great views. I’d say moderately difficult but worth it. Had to park in town on the street bc the lot was full..

Solid hike. Great for sporty dogs though I’d be careful with less athletic breeds on the northern portion (left side from the start) of this loop. We have a golden and some of the rock climbs were 2-4 feet vertically. The southern portion was easier, but annoying with long stretches of ankle roller rocks. Good hike and great views though, southern part was a solid moderate trek.

HikingGreat!

Great trail . Recently I visited 2 times in last 3 weeks . First time we reached at the pick during sunset. We are able to see beautiful views. Yesterday it was Hurricane Isaias in this area and we decided to do adventure. No one was on trail. We started 7.30 Pm and reached the pick at 9 pm . We saw so many water falls , streams , falling trees due to storm. Able to clean some trees debris those blocking the trail route. We get down around 10 pm and it was really adventure trail due to tropical storm we never had before specially in night time .
