The Green Mountain Wind Farm is just South of Garrett and consists of half a dozen huge three-blade turbines. They are an almost surreal sight along the trail. But when you get to the Salisbury Viaduct you're in for an even bigger treat. Not only is the Viaduct itself impressive (1908' long and 101 above the Cassleman River and Rt. 219) but on the hills beyond Meyersdale is the FPL Energy Wind Farm with 20 turbines across Meadow Mountain.

A beautiful trail from Garrett to Meyersdale, the girlfriend and I headed here for her first slightly "longer" rail trail. The area is beautiful and the viaduct provides a breathtaking vista. The former station at Meyersdale, which now serves as a historic society museum was a great source of information with very friendly staff. If you get to stop we both highly recommend the GI Dayroom Coffee house to refuel. The ride to Meyersdale is a very slight grade, almost imperceptible, but the ride back is a treat for anyone who wants to release their inner speed freak. We will definitely be returning for a longer trip once she gets herself more comfortable.
