We were going to hike Eagle Creek trail but it was closed today, 1/14 because of a mudslide. We found this trail nearby and it was good. I wouldn’t call it a top trail but definitely fit the bill since we drove out there from Portland. You could see some very nice views and there was a somewhat challenging river crossing. There were a couple fallen trees on the trail and we saw one group of two. If you’re looking for a shorter hike, smaller crowd and some nice views I recommend it.
Isolated trail, at least on a Thursday. You can hear the highway the entire hike but it's a low droning.
Great trail beginning with a short but steep climb, then a steady gradual incline for the rest of the trail. Some great views of the gorge, and rock formations above the treeline....Saw a Coopers Hawk, Nuthatches, chipmunks and a Woodpecker. Trail ends abruptly but continues into another trail. Great views towards the end. Make sure to watch for Poison Oak especially on the second half of the trail..There are areas where it is pretty thick.
Besides the 2 beautiful lookout points, the trail leads to the middle of no where. If it weren’t for the map, I didn’t know it ended.
3.23.19 .. nice afternoon hike starting from Wyeth Campground. The trail is very visible, and just a smidgen of snow left on the trail .. no need for spikes or yak tracks, just good hiking boots. A few downed trees made the trail a bit more interesting #climbing. A little anticlimactic at the end of the trail, as it wasn't at a summit view or something additionally awe-inspiring
This hike is an easy hike. Perfect mid-morning or early afternoon hike. There are some big trees that have fallen on the trail you either have to go under or over. The majority of this trail is on a rocky ledge. My only complaint there is no signage as to say when you get to the end. I had to depend on the map to say when it was time to turn around. There are a few views of the gorge but nothing like other hikes in the area. The trail is mostly through the woods.
