Love these trails and usually go through here at least once a week. The main entrance is on 162nd and takes you right to the more open areas (the gates are closed now though so your better off parking at one of the other openings (148th/Holgate/Raymond Street). I enjoy the scenery from the entrance on 148th and it provides a simple ten minute loop if you don’t have much time and direct access to the rest of the trails. Tons of wildlife in this area, frequently see barred owls and hawks near dawn as well as woodpeckers, chipmunks, varieties of fungus and more. The tall Doug Firs, Big leaf maples, and Cedars provide tons of cover making this area great when it’s raining.

Still open. You have to walk up from the gate that is locked but nice hike!

Fun mixed view walk. The best part was the 3 volcano view! I recommend following this map because there are lots of different trails and it’s easy to cut your walk short.

Beautiful well maintained trail system. The elevation gain/loss is a bit trying for a flatlander but well worth it. Wooded and prairie sections with amazing views and scenery even in early February.

Nice “city” hike with lots of choices. Meadows and forest trails. Easy

What an absolutely beautiful place! Partially shaded and no significant hills

Fun trail and great if you're looking for something a little low key but not too easy.

Great place to run trails in beautiful forested areas. The grass fields have TH markers to branch out in trails.

Powell Butte isn't my favorite park in the city, but it always surprises me when I go. It's easy to sum it (get it... summit) up as a "boring field on the top place"... but there is also a sizeable forest on the west and south sides. So in reality the park offers quite a bit of variety. Plus, having the open fields at the top affords more unobstructed views. Oh, and there are a few flowers [ahem millions] to boot (but don't kick them). I like all the ole wood fences around. The trails are marked well at all intersections. Mountain bikers frequent these trails, so watch out if you are hiking. Most everyone in Portland is pretty courteous on trails, so it's not really a big deal.

no much to see there, more like take a walk at an open field/farm.

I've done this trail alot of times, and I've found if I am up there before 10, as I'm nearing the top of the pioneer orchard trail at the top of the tree line I'll regularly catch some deer to the east of the trail, even got pretty close to a good sized buck!
