The trail is also called "Old Growth Ridge Trail", it is what the sign says. The first portion is called "Armantrout Loop" to commemorate the local biologist (there is a memorial) who was instrumental in recovery of endangered species. The trail is well-labeled with many benches built by Boy Scouts of America on the way. Three stars because: 1) at the time of hiking the place was intermittently overgrown, esp. in the beginning; 2) no good viewpoints, even the summit is a tree with a trail around, and broken bench. If you happen to camp at Whittaker, of course it is worth hiking but not as an independent goal.
