I’d recommend this trail! Didn’t meet anyone till at the end, on the beach. It was quiet with lovely weather. Only marked down because there weren’t any markings or signs on trail at several forks or places trail divided.

I love this trail just about more than anything. It’s just so short and simple with varied flora and fauna. The rhododendrons were blooming in all their glory, and there was a little snake sunbathing on the trail. Highly recommend.

Small little loop but it trails off and you can walk on sand and see the ocean pooling into the lake. There are few parts of this hike where there is incline but it's not hard by any means. Worth checking if you're out here.

This is my new favorite hike. It’s easily accessible, almost no elevation gain, deep dark and twisty woods, and ocean water. I mean what more could you ask for? The distance is short and the elevation is negligible, but you still get a workout from walking sections of loose sand. This is quintessential coastal woods at its finest, and though it dumped rain on me today, I can’t wait to do this again. There’s also plenty of parking, picnic tables, and bathrooms. Critters spotted along the way: birds, lots and lots of birds.

It is a great trail with many ups and downs which is a nice workout. The trees and forest are beautiful and the trails were well taken care of. The only amazing scary sounds we heard were monkeys.....oooh sorry they were our kids trying to make us think there were monkeys on the trail. Seriously though we will be back !!!

"None shall pass!" I played the part of the balrog while Sequoia was the young version of Gandalf guarding the Bridge of Khazad-dûm. A nice family adopted me into their hiking group for a few minutes. In addition to that bit of fun the loop was quite enjoyable and scenic. It was fairly crowded, probably from people staying at the adjacent campground.

May 3, 2017 While hiking the Three Capes section of the Oregon Coast trail I had hoped to cross the mouth of Sand Lake at low tide. No way unless it is 2 ft minus tide. Instead I found a trail around the south side of the lake, which is a beautiful estuary. Whalen Island is peninsula in the lake. When I came to sandlake road, I turned north and walked 1/2 mile to Whalen Island. Could have been a great campsite. Osprey and Blue Herons abound. There is no OHV traffic on Whalen Island or along the the south side of Sand Lake

Surprisingly great - easy - hike. Nice view of Sandlake and native Oregon coast Forestlands. Take some snacks and picnic on the sand. Only downside is the sound of off-road vehicles at the nearby Sandlake sand dunes.

Really great, short hike. Family friendly. Take some water. Great viewpoints of Sand Lake, and the ocean beyond that. Lots of foliage, some of it edible (we picked huckleberries).

The foliage was pretty, but the hike was more like a walk. Too easy and the loop is confusing.

This was a great trek for all ages. With beautiful scenery all around and the sound of the ocean in the background it was a peaceful and happy hike. The bonus...In the spring there are TONS of huge rhododendrons blooming through out the entire walk
