Backpacked to the crooked creek confluence at the end of May, 2019. Some logs covering the trail, recent rain also made it muddy. Still great and very beautiful. FYI the bridge to cross crooked creek burned down so you have to wade across. Flows were high but it was easily crossable with a hand from a friend.

Mostly forested with some granite sticking out. I enjoyed it because it was only us. if you are looking to see peoplre hit it up during fishing season.

Good hike but be prepared for rattle snakes! We saw a lot of animal scat and heard one large animal jump into the river ahead of us but didn't see what it was. We hiked about 6 miles in and back, starting right outside of Troy Oregon. This is rated as a moderate hike, but due to the amount of rattle snakes, I wouldn't go if you're not prepared for them.

Not my new favorite trail for sure! The high grass and ferns, lovely as they are, make for miles of wet pants and boots. I recommend bringing gaters both for the wet grass and the rattle snakes. LOTS of freakin' snakes! Keep your eyes on the trail! The scenery is nice nut I think the views driving in from Flora are nice than those on the trail. It is remote and we only saw one other hike in three days, this helps make up for the snakes! Also, camp sites are few and far between as is river access. From the high sections of trail you can see nice river beaches but there is no way to get to them unless you bushwhack your way through the rattle snake laden woods.

We backpacked in mid May of 2012 a total of 29 miles along the Wenaha river out to Fairview Bar and the hiked up to the top of Smooth Ridge for a view of the canyon. There were signs of lots of wildlife however we did not encounter any thing other than rattlesnakes. Lots of rattlesnakes. Camping sites are few and you only have those spots to choose from. We were the only people out here for the 3 days that we packed. This truly is isolated and you do not want to get hurt out here.
