272 foot waterfall over basalt lava cliffs up the Umpqua River Valley. Watson Falls is the third highest waterfall in Oregon at 272 feet. It is the most beautiful waterfall along the North Umpqua River Valley. You will cross a wooden bridge below the falls that will put you right into the lower rapids with an amazing view of the falls as they roar over the basalt lava cliffs ahead.

This was an unbelievably gorgeous hike. There is a small waterfall just adjacent to a picnic area right at the parking lot, but the actual trail for Watson Falls starts across the small road. Mostly uphill and a bit slippery in spots, but good handholds. You can go a little off trail with some rock scrambling and get different vantage points of the main falls.

Gorgeous hike along a stream to a beautiful waterfall. Short and sweet but worth it. My FitBit clocked 1.08 miles from the parking lot, around the loop, with a stop at the viewpoint. Can be slippery in some areas, but didn’t feel unsafe with me or my dog.

Short but sweet. Uphill there and downhill back. Can get right up to where the falls land. Also another viewpoint about a quarter way up. Will definitely visit again.

Not too busy. Pretty strenuous for an old gal like me. A few benches to rest. I just took my time through gorgeous scenery. So glad I pursued. The trail takes you about half way up the falls.

If you exercise regularly, this trails great. I would NOT recommend this hike to anyone with asthma, physical impairment or recent leg injury. If you have kids under 3, you will need to carry them. This trail is narrow, steep, no railings, and a fallen tree you need to climb over. Going later in the evening will result in swarms of mosquito bites. This waterfall has one of the best views on HWY 138 and I would recommend stopping to explore.

Amazing waterfall!! There is a spot where you can go up the rocks and get really close to the water. Our kids loved it. Out of all the waterfalls on 138 it is the best!!

Did this hike the other day. Listed as moderate but I would say it’s easy and it’s short. Beautiful Falls, so worth it. We did this one after going to Tokatee and it was super busy. This hike is just up the road.

Completed June 2019 Saw the sign on our route from crater lake and decided to stop and stretch our legs. Labeled as moderate however my 2 year old and 7 yr old completed this hike no problem. There is plenty of shade. Only downside was there were plenty of mosquitoes but not the trails fault. The hike kept getting better and better as it went. You wont be disappointed! It is muddy from the mist. All part of hiking. note- some people scrambled up rocks to get to the bottom of the waterfall. We didnt, instead we continued the path and got next to it.

Very nice waterfall. There are many short hikes that lead to waterfalls along highway 138 and this one stands out for sure!

Amazing waterfall and short hike. Some mud but nothing extreme and well worth being able to stand face to face with the falls. The spray from the falls was more than refreshing and breathtakingly beautiful!

Trail completed May 4/19. Great conditions- slightly muddy where waterfall spews. Some trees fallen down but majority of trail clear. Mostly steep incline to waterfall. Was able to hike up to top viewing deck- Gorgeous. Hiked in Birkenstocks and was okay. *must cross road to start trail *

Watson Falls is hands down the best waterfall of Umpqua National Park and arguably Oregon. It is the hidden gem of Southern Oregon and it boggles my mind why more people don’t know about it - or pass this up for Crater Lake instead. Umpqua National Park and it’s waterfalls waaaaaay surpass Crater Lake in my mind. Aaaaanyways, this hike is phenomenal. Short and sweet and packs a lot of punch for beauty. Every corner you turn you will want to stop and take a photo. It’s that good. We easily took our two young boys and they were cracking up as we slowly got closer and closer to the falls - while we got wetter and wetter! I would advise to bring a towel with you. Unless it’s a hot day you might even want a poncho. You WILL want to get up close to these falls. They best view is in that amphitheater like of a structure that surrounds and engulfs you if you dare to stand close to this waterfall. Last year I even saw someone stand underneath it!!

super pretty long falls! Nice trail, mild mud and a couple branch obstacles, large parking lot. theres an upper and lower viewing area. Also one side of the trail starts across and up the street maybe a 100 feet, i was initially confused

Fun hike to the falls today. March 29th and most of the snow on the trail is gone, at least to the footbridge overlook. Some downed trees, but easy enough to get around.
