A great year-round bird-watching loop on Sauvie Island. This walking loop around the Wapato Access Greenway State Park on Sauvie Island is a great destination year-round for bird watching. This loop will take you to a viewpoint over a marshy area where you may see herons and various song birds, to Hadley's Landing over the Multnomah Channel, then around the north end of the park back to the car.

I’ve been taking my dog trail running once a day here. It’s a perfect way to start the day or end it with watching the sunset on the dock or listening to all the birds wake up in the morning.

Great kid friendly hike! A bit muddy but we had boots and the kids were happy to splash in puddles. Convenient location to downtown Portland.

This is a good trail for a nice walk out in nature. It feels remote and long enough that you get a reprieve from the city and can get lost in nature. Yet it's simple enough that it isn't an ordeal to get to/complete. Pretty views of the water on the east side of the loop, with lots of pretty, colorful birds to see. It's a little muddy on the west side of the loop, so I would recommend wearing boots.

I have taken this trail many times in different seasons. My husky loves the areas to explore. Easy trail but can get muddy during the rainy months. Summertime is great, and there is a picnicking area should you want to add a stop. The loop is well travelled and is easy to follow; additionally, there are wildlife information postings to add to the education of the area especially nice for those not having been here before.

Great for hiking with toddler. It was mostly flat and easy to walk without a lot of roots in the path.

Nice short easy hike close to home. The only drawback was the people who left their dogs poo bags near the beginning of the trail.

Great for berry picking. My son had a great time here.

Flat, very pretty, hardly anyone there ☺

The trail is pretty easy. This time of year you have lots of mud puddles to deal with and part of the trail was in the pond at one end so you cannot really do the loop in the wet spring. April

Nice easy trail, has lots of water birds and great views of the lake. Could be done with a jogging stroller. Was a little muddy so our dog needed a good bath when we got home. Also according to my phone it was a 5 mile loop not 2.4.

The Wapato Loop offers the perfect forest escape in the Portland/Vancouver area, which is saying something. I think it might just be my favorite easy hike in our region. The trail is as green as it is peaceful. The Wapato Loop offers the sense of being lost in the woods without causing you to be in fact lost in the woods. It's an easy trek, and the trail is defined well enough so that you never feel at a loss of direction. At the center of the loop is a big duck pond, which is appealing in a very modest sense. There's a wide variety of plant life on the loop, including some very ancient oaks. While not officially a part of the trail, the docks on the southern tip of the Wapato Loop are an easy stroll. The best water views on the trail can be had from here, and there are even picnic tables not too far away from the docks themselves.

Nice, peaceful trail with, during the right time of year, lots of cranes and other water fowl to be seen in the wetland area. Great trail for running!

A nice easy dog-friendly wide path around the duck pond. Saw a few deer but no fowl in November. Very relaxing. Adequate parking, picnic tables a few hundred yards away.

A decent 2 mile hike. Very easy. Has a few areas you can picnic at with tables. We went in the middle of September so there was no "lake".
