This trail is currently closed for a month because of a deadly cougar attack until they find the cougar that killed the hiker on the nearby Hunchback Trail.

"The Forest Service closed more than 29,000 acres in the Hunchback Mountain area to public use as officials continue to search for the cougar suspected of causing the death of a Gresham hiker.
The area will be closed for at least 30 days, though the order could end early or be extended depending on the progress of the operation."

The hike is short and sweet with some ups and downs, but views of Mount Hood are world-class and lake itself is serene. Dog enjoyed swimming. No bugs.
However, the drive is awful and that is being nice. Budget 45 minute to/fro from Still Creek Campground.
Glad we did it, but will never drive that road again.

The view of the mountain was stunningly beautiful and picturesque. The lake was just okay, pretty buggy and very green, not super pretty or anything. Beware of the road to get to the trailhead. It’s intense. We saw all the warnings in the reviews and thought “ahhh it’s fine”, but no, this road is the real damn deal. Our Toyota Yaris almost didn’t make it, big ass rocks all over for about 3.5 miles... it was an incredibly stressful drive. That being said, I really enjoyed this hike and would definitely recommend.

It took 35 minutes up and 30 minutes down the road to/from trailhead. The road was as bad as described, and you really are best served with a high clearance vehicle. Veda Lake and the viewpoint of Hood are surreal. It is a beautiful emerald green color. No crowds. Save for a clear day.

Rough road going in for sure. Fantastic easy hike. Somewhat steep entry but not too bad , levels out and then descent down to lake. All super doable. Beautiful views of Hood. Again, road is rough jagged rocks in narrow road. All wheel drive preferred.

Gorgeous hike. Road to the trailhead a bit rough with lots of potholes. Views are of the best hikes!

Can anyone tell if it's possible to drive to the trailhead without an all wheel drive? We're looking to head there tomorrow and will appreciate your comment.

The road up past Trillium Lake is ROUGH, literally and figuratively. You can make it up without AWD but drive slooooow.

Bit of a drive for a short hike, but the small lake is lovely and secluded and good for a swim. Great view of Mt. Hood from the high point of the trail. Nice backcountry campsites cleared with fire rings.
