It was an okay easy hike. I would suggest doing this one before juniper gulch or else it will feel a bit anticlimactic. Pretty hike. Mostly following a dry creek bed. End of the hike slot canyon is too grown over to hike into.

beautiful day. elevation gain is very gradual. trail is not much more than a game trail for the first mile and then a creek bed for the second mile. spectacular views of the surrounding mountains. no signal for cell phone so couldn't record. download map before you go if you want one, though not really needed for this trail.

I loved it. I strongly suggest stopping every once in a while and take in the views and listen to the wildlife. Must have been about 5 different birds singing different tunes everything I stopped.

HikingNo shade

The area was very scenic, the trail is quite overgrown and brushy. We did encounter a rattle snake that gave us warning enough to avoid it. Listen for the rattle. It was quite warm even in April because there is so little shade and air flow up the gulch.

Good views of several rock formations and a fun to follow trail that wanders through large fields of sagebrush.

First to Review

Leslie Gulch is grouped in with Succor Creek State Park on this site, which is actually about 17 miles away, so I'm adding this review specifically for the Upper Leslie Gulch trail. This is an absolutely beautiful hike that is easy enough for young children, but there is almost no shade the entire way. It was very hot in May when I hiked it, so bring plenty of water and watch out for snakes. The hoodoo formations are incredible, with a few opportunities for rock climbing along the trail. There is parking at the trailhead, which is well marked with signs. The trail follows a dry creek bed towards the end, eventually climbing into a canyon that is impassable due to steep rocks and overgrown brush. Camping is available at Slocum Creek a few miles down the road at Lake Owyhee.
