The trail was really nice. Almost completely covered the whole time, so it was pretty cold, no sun. The sound of gun fire and ATVs made it hard for me to enjoy myself. Not very peaceful to listen to, it was very loud and throughout most of the hike. I was extremely tired at the end, my legs are going to hurt tomorrow.

Hike was great. A lot of ATV and dirt bikes. Be careful when you cross the roads. (Multiple times if you do the whole loop) and at the university falls trailhead some knuckle heads who can’t read came down the hiking trail on there dirt bikes. So just be alert. The waterfall is awesome and we had it mostly to ourselves

Fabulous trail with great infrastructure. Bridges and creeks and well marked at every junction. I loved some of the vistas in planted clear cut area.

parking lot is shared with ATVs and dirt bikes parkings. Trail crosses tons of ATV trails. Can hear gun range during most part of the trail. Not a peaceful hike at all.

First person at the trailhead at 7:45am, went clockwise as suggested and it didn’t disappoint. I was the only person on the trail until the falls. Ran into 3 other parties between the falls and trailhead. As others noted, you do get close enough to the gunshots to smell the gunpowder, and there are off-road vehicles on nearby trails, it can sound quite close at times. It does get a little tricky to figure out which trail to take when it splits between story burn and gravelle bros but they end up intersecting again anyway. It was super rainy today so poles helped. Not a bad workout. Apple Watch clocked about 4hr, I’m in pretty good shape . Enjoy!

I started this trail around 7AM on a Saturday with my three dogs: 7 (y/o) cane corso, 6 (y/o) pitbull, and 10 month pug. Overall great trail. It makes several passes across gravel roads and dirt bike trails that probably get busier throughout the day. I used my map to follow the trail in some sections but it’s fairly easy to navigate. To make it to the falls, you have to go down the trail with the university falls sign near the waypoint on the map, the other trail leading to the falls is a little misleading. When I got back to my vehicle, the whole lot was filled with off-road enthusiasts. I camped in the parking lot the night before to avoid that and left right after we were done. Found a bunch of oyster mushrooms too! No cell service (download map) Have fun! @joe.gardenbelle

The hiking portion had little foot traffic but as everyone says, the motorized vehicles and gunshots are ungodly. I never actually saw the falls... don’t know what I did wrong! Walked past “university falls trailhead” and did the whole loop. First time doing this trail and I was afraid to get lost with no service out there, so I didn’t feel comfortable wandering from the path. There are far more scenic places. Biggest seeking point was that there were few actual hikers, which is good for my reactive dog. I got 8.4 miles.

Nice hike. Lots of motocross trails intersect the hiking trail. Didn’t hear them often. Only met one person on the hike which was a mountain biker. You can hear guns in the distance at a couple spots. Most of the trail is well marked. Had to look at the gps track a couple of times.

Great place to run! A tad under marked but all the loops go back to each other. Not very many people out hiking so lots of open space!

Fantastic 8-mile loop for a day hike. Worked through this one clockwise today with a friend and we took about 4 1/2 hours while stopping at the falls. The falls are 5.5 miles in clockwise, and I highly recommend doing the hike this way. Absolutely perfect trail if you don't mind gunshots and the revving of motors.

There is gun shots in the distance as everyone states but we have gun dogs and they didn't mind. Beautiful .3 mile hike that was easy for myself and my 15 year old daughter. It was worth going at least once. We enjoyed our lunch by the waterfall. great little stop before heading out to Tillamook.

NOT SUITABLE FOR DOGS OR PEOPLE FRIGHTENED BY LOUD NOISES. wish I had read other reviews before heading out. The 0.5 mile we made it before gun shots spooked my dog were beautiful, disappointed we couldn’t get further.

I'm fine with some gunfire and atv noise usually, but the gunfire was SO close to the trail it made me very nervous. It was close enough in some spots I could hear them reloading and the shots themselves were so loud I'd wished I brought earplugs. Pretty enough hike though if you don't mind large patches of clearcut (but also, wildflowers!) & not too many people on a weekday morning.

Well it is season for the bugs. If you stood still long enough you would get swarmed. It was a beautiful hike up. I was not ready physically for a long hike, neither was my friend. Lots of constant gun fire and atvs, but I guess we were warned with reviews. Started at 1pm and finished around 6pm with a ride back down. Maybe it would be better earlier on in the year when more of the creeks are full of water

I was apprehensive when I saw reviews about gunfire and ATVs. I arrived a little before 8 am and hiked a a couple miles before I heard a little gunfire in the distance, not awful. Same for ATVs, arrive a little early and you barely hear them/see them. Saw a few folks on the trail and everyone was great about social distancing. The falls themselves are beautiful and the loop is pretty stunning. I got back to my car around noon and it was packed with ATVs and dirtbikes getting ready to head out. If you time it right, it's a great hike!

Great hike! A few of the trails were a bit overgrown in places seeing as this was the first weekend they were open due to COVID, but it was a wonderful hike.
