FIRE CLOSURE: From Sep 25, 2020 - May 15, 2021 there are closures in this park or area due to wildfire. For more information, please visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/alerts/mthood/alerts-notices/?aid=62187 It is a short walk (a little over a quarter mile) to Umbrella Falls, a nice 60-foot waterfall with a veil over the bedrock.  There is a footbridge crossing over the creek just below the falls and provided a good spot for pictures. After another quarter mile is the intersection with Sahalie Falls Trail (667C).  From here, it is a little over a mile to the next waterfall.  The hike is very pleasant, gradually heading downhill through the forest and along a ridgeline above East Fork Hood River. A very steep unofficial trail leads down to the base of the falls.

The maps that the app took us to didn’t lead us to the right place but we ended up figuring it out. Looks like a lot of people start at the top and hike down to umbrella falls and continue down to Sahalie falls but we started at Sahalie and hiked up. It was a bit strenuous but overall not bad at all. The waterfall at the end was absolutely worth it. It was incredible! The hike back down was so peaceful. Not many people on the trail and it was so quiet and relaxing.

SnowshoeingGreat!

Tried to find the trail a few weeks ago but couldn’t. Decided to give it another try today and woohoo they put markers on the trail. Lots of new snow and only a few people out.

Not too long and good work out on the way back. Very quiet and peaceful once you get a few yards from the car park. Lots of rabbit tracks but no rabbits : )

There was about 4 inches of snow and the hike down to Umbrella Falls was easy with our snow suited 4 year old and dogs. We made it about half way to Sahalie Falls before we turned back due to increased snow fall. The whole trip was beautiful!! Note: The trail head is is very poorly marked, so keep your eyes pealed. There is still a 4x4 in the ground at the head, less the sign. It’s just kitty-corner to the entrance to a utility yard, which will be on your left as your going up hill. The trail head will be on your right.

Gorgeous forested trail where streams and falls breakthrough. Start at at one falls and go up single track forested trail to Umbrella Falls. Shaded and comfortable.

RunningGreat!

Sandy trail, not fun for running, no trail signs showing the turnoffs to Umbrella Falls or Sahale Falls, make sure you know where you're going and bring a map.

Great hike, peaceful easy, UNTILL... Sahalie Falls is quite the scramble to the bottom, out dogs almost too hard for out dogs. https://youtu.be/iP8iAFrtEn4

Awesome! The falls at the start of the hike are gorgeous, very picturesque. The trail is pretty easy, although you are going slowly downhill and will feel it on the way back up. When you get to sahalie falls at the end, if you want to go to the bottom it is quite a scramble. I would not attempt with children or dogs, and make sure you have good footwear. I almost didn’t do it because it looked really treacherous, but I slowly did it, scooting down on my butt at times and using roots as handles. It is beautiful at the bottom and I took a quick (and freezing) dip.

We followed the map but it was a little tricky to find the trailhead but we climbed up a path by the bridge and started hiking. Nice shaded trail, well maintained. There were a lot of people though...a lot of stepping off the path with our masks. The falls and views of Mt. Hood were great!

Lovely hike with younger kids. Short walk to Umbrella falls and then serene wander past wildflower sprinkled meadows to Sahalie falls. Very steep scramble to get to base of Sahalie. Would not recommend with young kids or untrained, overly enthusiastic pups. Gorgeous view of Mount Hood at the end. One of my new favorite family hikes. Trail got busy around early afternoon.

Hiking

Beautiful trail, lots of flowers, falls were awesome with good flow, shade and few mosquitos. Trail down to Sahalie falls is unmarked coming down, but is marked in the upward direction (toward the ski slopes). The trail to Sahalie falls was nearly impassible - very eroded and steep. Don’t do it if you have bad knees or balance issues- saw a bunch of people slip.

Only did .5 miles to check out the waterfalls. Very worth it. I Would love to explore the rest of it and the neighboring trails sometime.

HikingGreat!

We started at the Elk Meadows Trailhead thinking the parking would be easier. There were a ton of folks out on a Friday but we were able to park very near our start. The trails are gorgeous and bear grass is definitely in bloom! We were able to have both falls to ourselves for a time, which was nice. The trail down to Sahalie is very steep but doable if you go slowly (and have good knees!). I would not have tried navigating down if it had been muddy but it was a dry day and we managed. NW Forest pass was needed at the Elk Meadows trailhead. Bathrooms were also open there!

I was disappointed in Sahalie Falls. The sight was spectacular but I was hoping I’d be able to find a way down to the actual water. Maybe I missed a turn. otherwise the hike was great! So beautiful!! Lots of gorgeous wildflowers and Umbrella falls is beautiful!
