This hike was challenging: very, very steep in the few two miles, but then mellows out into a few miles of forest and meadows. It does get steep again near the end, in the mile just before Flag Point Road. Hikers are rewarded with views of The Sisters and Jefferson to the south during the first part of the hike, as well as expansive territorial views of the Friend area of central Oregon. About a third of the way up, there's an up-close-and-personal view of Hood but its base is obscured by the mountain that the trail itself continues to climb. Get the best views of Hood by continuing onto the Divide Trail at the top.
