Getting There

This mountain has one of the best views in central Oregon that is easily accessible. To the north is Broken Top Mountain with beautiful high alpine sceneries and to the southwest is Mount Bachelor. There is minimal blowdown each year and all the snow is gone by July.

Get here early as it often fills up with snowmobile trailers.

From Bend drive west on the Cascade Lakes Highway until you get to the Tumalo Parking lot across from Mt. Bachelor. You'll need a Snow-park pass here to park.

did this hike 8/6/20 at 10:30 a. No mosquitoes but did get caught underdressed. thought it was going to be a beautiful day but it was actually quite chilly and the mountains peak was surrounded in fog. was able tp still see the views from 1/2 up the trail & it was spectacular. Wish bi would have seen the tippy top views but no luck... took my sister and I 1:35 mins up and back. its a nice gradual elevation climb and the trail is wide and clear. highly recommend. Just make sure to pack light layers and pick a nice sunny day.

HikingGreat!No shade

Easy to drive to. Didn't see anything that said a pass was required this time of year. Steep hike but it's short enough. I'm not really a hiker but I'm in decent shape and I needed 2 water/breather breaks. Didn't see many mosquitoes at 8am-10:30. Panoramic views at the top are very much worth the drive/hike.

Hiked this trail this morning (7/28) around 10am. Nice short hike that gets your heart rate up and great views at the top. Didn’t notice any mosquitos. A good part of the trail is fully exposed so best on a cool day or morning/evening.

Well worth the hike up to see the panoramic view at the top. Trail is in good shape. Gets a little dusty especially coming down.

I was visiting the area and had only a few days to hike- I think this should be a 'must-do' if you're looking for the best views!! You'l be rewarded fairly quickly halfway up the trail with a view of Mt. Bachelor and when you get to the top, it's just mind-blowing how far you can see. So glad I did this hike, and only took a few hours up and back.

HikingGreat!

2 hours and 15 to complete. Departed at 8:30 on a Tuesday morning. Parking lot fairly empty. Trail not too crowded, but almost everyone was wearing a face mask. Friendly doggies. Beautiful hike with wild flowers and wonderful views.

This hike was difficult but the view was SO worth it!!!! Very steep & high altitude, if you are not used to the elevation definitely take it slow. My husky had a really hard time and about 1 mile up would stop and lay down in the shade and not want to keep moving. I was determined to finish the hike but it took us about 3.5 hours to go only 4 miles. If you have a dog PLEASE bring water for them & take their exhaustion seriously!!

Amazing amazing amazing hike. Going up is fairly steep, and fully in the sun but the views of Mt Bachelor are surreal. Summit is beyond words- the views of the three sisters and broken top are beyond beautiful. Would definitely do this again !

Great hike but a lot harder than we thought! We got to the trailhead parking lot at 11:20am (Sunday) and there were only 2 spots available. We went with our 9 year old and the 11 year old, and it took us 1 hour 45 min to get up to the top, and 45 min to get down. My husband and our 11 year old son (gymnast) work out daily and are in great shape, but even they were out of breath. Also lots of mosquitoes there. The view is incredible so definitely worth the hike but just go slow and at your own pace!

Nice hike up through woods that breaks into amazing views of all the mountains in the area. Large parking lot and toilet. Only downside is that the trail can get crowded so go end of day or early, easy to mask up and get distance when people pass.

Awesome hike! I began about 6:30 in the morning and no one else on the trail. I prefer to take hikes when it’s quiet and I have it to myself. The view from the top is spectacular. Still some snow. As I descended many people coming up. Highly recommend.

6-27-20. What a beautiful hike. We switch backed in and out of shade up the side of the mountain. If you are not in shape you must take your time, you will get out of breath quickly. I am in shape and took my sweet time. Great views of Mt. Bachelor on the way up and back down. The views from up top are spectacular!! The mountains go on forever. A must do hike on a clear day to make it all worth while.

This trail never disappoints, and on a sunny clear day like today the views from the summit are outstanding. One of the best short hikes in Central Oregon.
