Getting There

Please note trailhead access is blocked to motor vehicles during winter months. You can still access trail by foot. This is a short hike to two beautiful waterfalls on Tumalo Creek beneath Broken Top Mountain. The first one you encounter is the largest at 97 feet while the 2nd (Double Falls) drops 30 and then 20 feet with about a mile in between. You can hike further up Tumalo Creek for more smaller waterfalls if you have time.

From Highway 97 in Bend, head west on Franklin Street. After about a mile you will turn right across the Deschutes River onto Galveston Street. Continue on Galveston past Century Drive when it becomes Skyliners Road. Follow this road for 10.5 miles and then take a left on to Forest Service Road 4601 which has a sign for Tumalo Falls. Follow this road as it becomes gravel all the way to the trailhead in another 2.5 miles.

Beautiful falls and hike through the snow. Had to park 2.5 miles from the trail due to road closure.

I love this hike...but I'll tell you that if you're able to do it, I'd do the whole loop. It's 7 miles but there are so many waterfalls and a lot of pretty forest. You're able to get down to some of the waterfalls also!

Tumalo Falls and Double Falls are beautiful and the trail is easy and scenic. Be aware that the last 2 miles or so of driving are on unpaved roads. Also you will need an NW Forest Pass or $5 cash for parking. The trail is great. Totally worth it. The road and the parking are washboard gravel.

Really pretty, and fairly easy, trail with great waterfalls! If you’re in Bend, definitely check this place out! A heads-up about the dog thing: most people are good about it, but some people do ignore the leash rule. It can be a very high-traffic hike at times, so just be prepared, and possibly go earlier or later in the day to avoid peak crowds.

This is definitely a place worth exploring, but it's much nicer to visit outside peak tourist season. Middle of a weekday at the end of October and the trailhead was full, but there was easy-to-find parking spots along the road. The dirt road going out is pretty beat up, but manageable. Besides all that, the trail is well maintained and it's a good hike. The falls are beautiful, with ice around the base already. Nice little kid-friendly jaunt.

This trail was fine but nothing special. It was not as close to the river as I would have liked. There were only a few spots I was able to see the creek. Also there were many bikes along the path that were hard to move out of the way for because it was a small dirt path. On the 2nd half of the trail it was all in a rocky street with cars driving by constantly. Overall it wasn’t the best hike ever

Great trail! Got there at 9:30 and saw almost no one on the way in. Lots more people on the way in and getting crowded as we left. If you go a little farther down the trail than is on the map, you can see another falls. Our dog loved it too!

Nice little hike! A lot of people and parking is a little difficult but we got lucky finding parking next to the trailhead. Once you get passed the Tumalo Falls outlook there are less people. We had a great time in nature.

Hiked 4/30/19 Beautiful hike, still 34 degrees at 8 am... snow is not on the road coming in. The gate is locked so you have to walk the road in. Nice gravel road. There is still snow on the trail. We only did Tumalo Falls.

Trail head is closed. Otherwise, the added 2 miles to reach trail head is not bad at all - which is fairly flat and has gravel.

trail head is closed in the winter so it add about an extra 1.5 miles to the falls. unfortunately we did not have that sort of time to extend our 2 miles hike to a 5 mile hike so we only did a small portion of it. The bottom of the hike was beautiful though we deep powder everywhere. I look forward to going back. it definitely is a popular trail, so keep this in mind.

Yesterday did 5.5 miles roundtrip to the bridge over the creek and back same way. All the falls were beautiful in the snow. Solid ice layer beneath the snow so needed traction the whole way. Due to trail conditions, few people ventured beyond Tumalo Falls and even fewer beyond Twin Falls

We did the 8 mile loop that showcased about 8 different waterfalls and a generally amazing trail. This hike is as hard as you want to make depending on how fast you go and if you do the loop. The walk back on the loop is not nearly as nice so if you walked to the 1/2 way point and turned around I wouldn’t blame you.
