HikingGreat!

It was beautiful! Loved the challenge right from the beginning. You drive past when your gps says to park and park right at the trailhead. Start the hike and then take the steep one to the right! Part of Old Baldy trail. And when you get to a road go left and the trail continues past the solar panel! What a view! The world was so perfectly silent! There is a set of concrete stairs left over from a 1930 lookout fort! Kinda cool! And even though this hike is shorter then most it had a decent incline all the way up! Great work out and one more hike completed!

One of my favorite trails! From the few times I've hiked this trial, I never bump into many hikers; It is very quiet & secluded. I hike this trail at least once a year. Easy trail with a great view! Just a friendly tip: there are two trails that cross paths on the way back down. It's really easy to take the wrong path back down (there are no signs).

Trail is in great shape! If you start at the Old Baldy trailhead, be prepared for a SLOW, pot hole filled drive to the trailhead. It’s fun if your vehicle has clearance and you’re ok going over some fallen tree branches.

This trail was maintained well compared to other trails this year! We actually came up from the west side, on the Fanton trail then the Old Baldy Trail, but went on the east side trail to go to Plaza Lake. At the top, it was too cloudy to see Mt. Hood, but we could see Mt. Jefferson! The trail was almost empty, which was great!

Hiking

Attempted to go 5/5/19 but got about 5mi from the trail head and found at least a foot of very slushy snow. I would have needed to put chains on my 4WD car to pass it and my assumption is the rest of the trail is covered but I didn’t get there so I don’t know. The road is also really rough, huge holes and deep runoff trails. I was just hoping to get my favorite view of Mt. Hood and Lolo Pass road is closed for logging so this was my next best option... guess not! Try again next month.

We hiked the west approach to Tumala Mountain (formerly Squaw Mtn). The trail was clear about half way up and then we hit snow. We were fine in our hiking shoes. The views from the top were amazing. Road: The road to the trailhead was dry and well maintained.

Easy hike through the woods. You end up hiking on the top of the ridge.
