We separately hiked whaleshead beach and Indian sands, as we didn’t want to walk along the 101 to connect them. The Indian sands trail is astounding. This beach in and of itself is so gorgeous. We had the entire beach to ourselves on a beautiful October day. The dogs love running around, chasing seabirds. The cliffs and forests above the beach are amazingly beautiful.

a beautiful trail along the cliffs above the ocean. great for birding. part of the trail is along the highway so it's more of an out and back deal. look out for little side trails with beautiful views of the ocean.

Our first hike while visiting this area. Beautiful trail with ups and downs, roots and rocks, in green forested areas, and sand dunes. We started at Whaleshead and hiked toward Indian Sands. The loop around Indian Sands was confusing, and we got ‘lost’ a few times. I don’t think we went around the whole loop, but what we hiked was beautiful. We tracked closer to 5 miles. I only gave this 4 stars because of the confusing trail at Indian Sands, and for many parts of the hike we could hear road noise. There is not a lot of space between 101 and the ocean, so at least we didn’t need to worry about getting truly lost :)

Beautiful little hike! Great views! Saw a few large banana slugs along the way too.

Love the trail, it has it all...beautiful views, up and down trails and sandy trails. However, my tracker calculated the loop to be around 4.4 miles.

Great trail with beautiful views and interesting forested section. Indian Sands detour is a great spot to have a picnic lunch.

I live across the street from this beach, as my go to beach. Beautiful waterfall and special natural areas and views that are separate preserves. I've lived this beach, that's why I bought here.

We stay at Whaleshead Beach Resort and hike to this beach with the kids and dog. Great beach and low traffic.

This is an amazing hike. The views are spectacular and the hidden natural bridge at the bottom of the trail is amazing.

One of our favorite trails. Be careful not to go out on the rocks at Indian Sands every year at least one person gets hit by a wave and washed into the sea. You can find the loop at the Northern end of Indian Sands, the trail goes along the edge of the valley and back to the parking lot.

Between Whales head beach road and Indian Sands viewpoint road on Highway 101 there is small parking area outside a guardrail,on the west side of 101.The Oregon Coast trail comes right through here.A few hundred yards north on the Oregon Coast trail a side trail takes off and goes over to Indian Sands and also out onto a penninsula. The side trail goes downhill to junction.Go to left and end up at the end of a penninsula.Terrific!Go to the right and you will end up at Indian Sands.Any of the paths that go north will end up at Indian Sands.

There is a place to park just off of hwy.101 on whaleshead beach road.on the right there.Start up the Oregon Coast trail going north. In about 8 minutes(just past a green bench)a side trail takes off on the left and goes out to a very scenic view point, one of the finest of the entire Oregon coast.

Beautiful mossy forrest with peekaboo coast look out points. Has a hard time finding the path for the second loop bc my battery died and trails were well marked. Quick on the way back too.

Parts of the hike are beautiful with views but a lot of it is pretty drab forest but definitely worth seeing. Living close it's one of my go to short hikes.
