Getting There

A short hike into the waterfall. The falls itself is a large falls with a large dry cave behind the falls. Rocks can be very slippery when wet so make sure to watch your step. The dry cave makes for a great finish to the hike and a great place to eat your lunch.

Near the water fall there are large rocks which can be slippery from the mist of the falls. Regular hiking boots are recommended. Pack in a lunch and eat at the falls. Just remember if you pack it in make sure to pack it out.

Directions from Hood River: Travel south on Highway 35 for approximately 25 miles to the Tamanawas Falls trailhead parking area on the west side of the highway. The trailhead is 1/4 mile north of Sherwood Campground.

WalkingGreat!

A very nice hike even for a rainy day! This hike is surrounded by trees and you follow a along a creek on your way to Tamanawas Falls, with little waterfalls along the way! You can also hike behind the waterfall, but I would suggest hiking boots if you want to do that since the rocks are uneven and a little slippery! Beautiful falls and hike overall, would do again!

Great hike! However very crowded. It was difficult to find parking when I got there at around 12. You will need a day pass to park there. Make sure you get that before you get to the trailhead since you can’t get one at the trailhead.

Nice easy trail that stays along the river and in the shade most of the way. Perfect little day hike.

Nice easy stroll for most of the way. It gets a little tricky with rocks/shale towards the last 0.5 miles. Busy route, nice view of the waterfall.

A pretty easy hike with the most elevation gain during the last half mile up to the falls. Hiking back behind the falls is a fun view. And enjoy your way back down and take in the streams and baby falls along the way.

Loved this hike. Be prepared to climb to the back of the falls or least take a dip. Such fun!

There is a lot of rocks and boulders to climb over. The trail is actually closer to 5 miles round trip. The waterfall is worth the trek tho. Very crowded on the weekends. Would suggest hiking during the week.

This trail is moderately hard with a spot at the end when you must climb over rocks. Falls are beautiful

Very dusty trail. I recommend face covering. Crowded the entire way. A little rocky in some sections but over all, the waterfall is worth it.

Not too difficult of a trail and marked well. Waterfall was gorgeous, highly recommend taking the extra adventure behind the waterfall to get another perspective. Pretty shaded for the most part and with a good breeze there were very little bugs.

Such an exciting trail! Hills, forest, river, rocky valley, waterfall! It has a bit of everything! And an excellent challenge if you’re into running them !

Beautiful hike but pretty rocky on the 2nd half to the waterfall. I brought my dog and she had trouble getting grip on the angled rocks. I wouldn’t recommend bringing dogs or small children. There was also a slide that we couldn’t avoid, so it might be better other times of the year. It was also very dusty. We were there on 8/4/20 in the afternoon and the trail wasn’t overly busy, which was nice. The view and spray of the waterfall was well worth it though :)

Lovely waterfall. Trail not too difficult. Rocky area can be tricky near to the falls. Can be crowded but there’s some space to spread out by the falls.

A beautiful trail with great spots near the water along the way. Only down side is it was a little crowded but you’re able to space out from others at the falls.

The main part of the trail was pretty straightforward and not difficult. Once you get insight of the waterfall, there is lots of room to sit and enjoy the view. There is also a very cool place to sit behind the waterfall. This was a very difficult challenge to crawl across the steep rocks but 100% worth it. I also highly suggest getting down to the bottom of the fall and standing under it to the side a little. Very cool surreal experience.
