Great trail. A moderate hike with some nice incline. Doable for your average hiker for sure. The GPS tried to take me on a different route so watch for that! And the road to the trailhead is a mess but the hike itself.... beautiful.

Beautiful trail. The extra 4 miles racked on from the trailhead road being closed worked off all my beers last night! Steins Pillar is eerie and beautiful. Truly amazing to behold.

Moderate hike but definitely has hills. Very doable for the average hiker. Beautiful views and a quiet trail.

This was a good moderate trail. GPS was taking us the wrong way so definitely watch out for that. The drive up is gravel and very bumpy, wouldn't recommend taking a low vehicle. Great views. We started around 840 and finished the hike around 1030, we did climb some rocks and relax a bit at the top before coming back down. Didnt have any issues with bugs.

Only downside was a wasp nest in a rock the kids were climbing...

Very nice trail, close to town, I only met people on the road out.

My other half and I hiked this last Saturday 5/18. It was gorgeous! This hike was pretty easy and we had a great time! Only saw a couple other groups of people. We basically had the trail to ourselves. I would recommend this hike to anyone who wants to see gorgeous views and get a decent little workout in all while having some fun.

Great trail for an east get-away— close to town, 4 miles total, always only pass no more than 2-6 people total, great views of the pillar, pleasant running but with some incline and decline, and lots of pines.

Easy hike would be interesting for kids and plenty of rocks to climb on

Just did this on 3-28-19. Had to hike a mile to the trailhead because the road was icy and snow still deep in places. The trail (and weather) had multiple personalities (snow, dirt, rock, forest, mud, sleet, sun, thunder..). Glad we were prepared with spikes , trekking poles and raincoats! We almost had the trail to ourselves. Very peaceful and unique beauty. Make sure to go all the way to the end. The pillar is so impressive from close up!

Directions only take you to turn for TH...2 more winding miles on road 500 to go. Hiked in early December. Beautiful in light snow. Did not see a soul. Stairs make final downward trek to pillar easy even in snow. Checked out accessible ledge with overhang to the right on unmaintained part of trail. 4 miles out and back through lovely stretch of forest. After hike, continued up road 500 for longer hike and elevation gain. Added almost 4 miles rt and map shows I could have kept going. Upper part of road is blocked to cars.

An easy hike or short trail run, even with the 5 flights of stairs on the return trip. Go early and avoid getting eaten.

What a great hike to start 2018. Did this mid February and very unseasonably warm temps in the upper 60's. A fairly easy out and back trek. Great views. Even saw Twin Pillars to the North. A beautiful hike in the Ochocos

Really neat trail, perfect quick hike with an amazing view. There are some fun boulders to climb on if you're feeling adventurous at the pillar.

Very nice view. The pillar is so unique. The hiking is nice here. There are backpack camping spots. Here is my Vlog showing a recent look at the place:

Awesome views overlooking the wilderness on the hike and great scenery all around. Came back to it for the first trail I ever ran, the hills and valleys make for a nice steep run too.

I hiked this trail about 1.5 months ago and it was beautiful. My only issue was the need for more water. Nice scenery and a decently maintained trail.
