My daughter Jennifer and I were looking for an early-May overnight destination in the Oregon Cascades. The access road to the trailhead had several snow patches requiring decent clearance. This was our first trip into this area. We were thankful for our GPS to regain the trail after long stretches of snow. For the record, May 4 is a little early for this hike even in a low snow year. After watching the dog venture out onto the lake's thin ice cover, we decided to return to the trailhead and camp at a nearby campground

Took the kids on this hike last summer. Our 5 and 7 year olds, me and the husband spent the day hiking to Square Lake and playing in the water. It was warm and quiet, we only saw a few people on the PCT part, and maybe 2 others once we got to the lake. One of the best family hikes we’ve done since moving to Sisters last year.

I love spending time in this area. I actually went all the way to Martin Lake on this over night trip, stopping at Square Lake and Booth Lake along the way. Pretty easy hike all the way around, but up to Martin Lake is off trail and quite steep. Photos posted are of Martin Lake
