Trail is in great shape. I was the first one at the trailhead at 7:20 a.m. but by 9 the parking lot was nearly full, so arrive early if you want some solitude.

10-17-20. Windows were broken out in parking lot when we returned from the hike. Not just our car. Several others as well. This is quite common here and has happened to several other people I know. Not sure why there aren't any warning signs or cameras. 1 star for law enforcement.

Good hike...lots of steps at the end! Also, probably the busiest trail I’ve been on this year. Next time, I’ll go down via other trail from the summit.

Please be careful, yesterday went hiking and parked at the trail head. Got there at 6:30pm and came back at 8:45pm. My car window was shattered and items were stolen from inside my car! It’s something we all know however if they see something that looks of value even if it isn’t, it’s still a risk.

Love this trail! Ridgeline is a great addition to Spencer’s trail if you’d like some extra distance and incline. I did it last weekend with my friend and our dogs, and we loved that we could let our pups off their leashes for most of the hike because of less traffic on ridgeline. Great hike!

Trail is easy to follow and well maintained. It travels through the woods so nice and shady until you get close to the top. Beautiful views at the top and you may even be able to see the peaks way off in the distance!!

not super busy on this weekday afternoon, nice climb to the summit and the descent back to the trailhead is refreshing

Nice trail overall but the path was relatively narrow. Normally this wouldn't be an issue but during covid times it is a drawback since you're unable to pass other hikers from a safe distance. It was a great hike overall, highly recommend this path if you're interested in Spencer's Butte.

Great trail - I try to hike this trail every week. It can sometimes be very busy in afternoon, I find that it is less crowded in the morning. The first half of the trail is a lovely and forested uphill jaunt, with the last half being switchbacks and finally an unshaded stair climb to the top. The stairs can get a little congested, so plan on stepping to the side to let people pass. Currently there has been a lot of stinging nettle and poison oak along the trail, so just be cautious of that.

HikingGreat!

Well maintained and mostly shady trail that begins in a prairie before meandering through chaparral forests and elven wonderland; it culminates in an arid ascent up a chiseled granite staircase with a view of the valley. I would rate this as moderate as there are changing conditions throughout (switchbacks, heat exposure, steep cliffs, tree roots, etc)

Really beautiful trail that is very shaded. It get difficult around the last mile to the top and there were a ton of people so it was a lot of stopping to let people past which caused the hike to take longer so plan ahead. Overall, pretty nice trail with really cool views at the end.

Nicely maintained trail. Easy to follow. Only thing I want to mention is there’s so many stinging nettles out there, not too much poison oak, but those stinging nettles are just encroaching on the trail...you’ll know when your legs or arms get zapped. Enjoy your day on the trail.

A short easy hike with some beautiful forests and nice lookouts over the city. Spring especially is a good time to go - we just went the first week of April and it was stunning. Bright flowers and bright green new growth, along with moss just about everywhere. It is almost always crowded which is my only complaint - when I’m out in nature I prefer to be isolated or at least not as many people. But there are a TON of college students up here (ranging in varying levels of obnoxious) and it takes away from the peace of the forest. The forest is where the hike really delivers - The top view of the city is nice to get a perspective and lay of the land of Springfield and Eugene but not the prettiest - the forest hike though will deliver on beauty. So if you want a quick getaway hike or are looking for a good trail run and don’t mind the crowds then it’s the right choice. If you’re willing to drive just a little more than there’s better finds not too far from Eugene. So many great hikes around here.
