7/7/20: I just did a 7mi rt on Soda Creek. The creek mentioned in the review two weeks ago is probably more doable now, but I still got my shoes wet. Use a big stick or poles if needed. I posted a picture of it. Flowers are blooming. First one plus mile of this hike is a bit dull but stick with it for pretty meadows, creeks, streams and eventual mountain views.

Stunning trail. Took this up to the lakes and Green Lakes trail down. Makes for a great loop. Amazing day.

We tried to hike Soda Creek Trail on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. Beautiful day for a hike, wildflowers blooming, but sadly the Crater Creek is running very high (approx. 1 1/2 miles into trail, just uphill of first meadow). With no bridge and a tall waterfall just downstream, we decided not to risk the crossing. It would have been helpful to know this before - which is why I am writing this review (no signs at TH indicate this condition.) This is the first time on this trail, so I don't know when the crossing is usually doable. At a minimum if you attempt, go earlier in day to avoid higher melt-off flows, bring water shoes and poles. Or just wait until later in the season when rock-hopping is more likely. Bugs are starting to appear as well.

Still very snowy. Lost the trail a few times. Very cool trail though with lots to see.

*Road access closing nov 21st just east of here meaning you’ll have to walk a bit to get to the trailhead.* Hiked Nov 20. 50s cloudy. This area is so cool. It’s the transition between the wet forests to the west and the high desert to the east. Trail starts flat and forested until you reach some switchbacks and start climbing more steeply. Watch for wildlife in the open area toward the end by the pond. Saw a beautiful fox. Check the pics. Be prepared. We raced back and escaped the snowstorm. I would have loved to continue on to broken top mountain. Would have been an easy five star hike. Just ran out of time.

Ran down this route from Green Lakes. Fast, mild grade single track through Oregon high country pine forest. As good as it gets!

Beautiful and pleasant hike! Scenery changed often, still quite a few wildflowers, able to cross streams/creeks without getting feet wet (mid August). Not very busy. Hiked for about 9.5 miles round trip.

We parked one car at Todd Lake, then one at the Greenlakes/Soda creek Trailhead parking-so we could shuttle. We hiked up the soda creek trail then came down the trail to Todd lake. It was a great choice. The Soda Creek trail is gorgeous and interesting! From Mountain View’s,, a river crossing, meadows, creeks and the forest, the scenery was diverse and interesting! I highly recommend it! The creek was rushing and full at the beginning of July so we had to take our shoes off to forge it. I recommend water proof shoes or something like keen sandals and a towel. It wasn’t hard but there was no way you could cross it without getting wet. So worth it though!

Lots of snow still, getting past the clearing I lost the trail and had to turn around.

This an amazing trail which eventually will take you to broken top trail or green lakes trail (both of which are also fantastic trails). Windy as all heck when I went but you hike right down the sight of broken top mountain and some beautiful old growth most of the trail with beautiful views more than half the time.

Love this hike! Distracted by the constant change of scenery from crossing creeks, to frolicking in meadows, to trekking through dense woods you'll lose track of the trail's elevation gain. Enjoy all the beautiful views.

Beautiful hike. There before the bugs hatch. Had to turn around at the river. Running too fast and it was 36 degrees out. Plan on bringing some kind of shoe for fording across. One of my favorite hikes. Snow free to the river.

Beautiful trail; runs through a small patch of lava flow near the beginning, then hits the creek. You have to ford the creek before climbing up to some gorgeous views!

July 23, 2017: great overall hike; respectable elevation gain; we went 5 miles out and 5 miles back, turning back at sign to Green Lakes; trip can be extended to Broken Top, Todd Lake, as well as completed as longer loop via Green Lakes; perfect access to water for dogs; relatively easy water crossing, but rocks are slippery when wet; view are great, which begin after a couple miles; park at Green Lakes TH; we completed 10 miles in 3.5 hours. Cheers.
