Getting There

Nice hike or bike ride around the rim of this Bend area park. Shevlin Park is a haven located less than three miles from Bend and a perfect location for hiking, jogging, fishing, cross country skiing, and picnicking. There is an extensive trail and pathway system providing for both summer and winter uses. The trail around the canyon rim is perfect for mountain biking, or a nature walk. You will travel through aspen and ponderosa pine. Views of Tumalo Creek in the canyon below.

The ODFW fishing limit for Shevlin Pond is 2 trout per day, 8-inch minimum length. Fishing is restricted to juvenile anglers 17 years and younger.

Take Newport Avenue heading west, it will turn into Shevlin Park Road after the roundabout at Mt. Washington Drive. Follow Shevlin Park Road for 1.5 miles. Turn left into the parking lot or the access road. If the seasonal gate is open go to the far Freemont Meadows parking area. You can access each of the trails from here. If the gate is closed walk down to the covered bridge and back to the parking lot for a nice hike.

I did this trail on a bike, and I’m not sure I’d rate it easy. It was absolutely gorgeous, but there was a LOT of pretty steep uphill and some rocks that needed to be walked over

Easy 5 mi loop. The sky was partly cloudy so even the parts of the trail that were exposed didn’t feel too hot or dusty.

Nature trips

Highly recommended trail, easy 4.5-5 miles. Views are great. Little rocky but nothing extreme. Dog friendly, bike friendly and easy if you want to run. Started at 6 am saw a couple of people here and there but everyone very polite and keeping social distancing.

Was recommended this trail for mountain biking for beginners but I would say there was a few more technical spots than I was comfortable with. Some of the signage was confusing bc Of all of the trails. But it was a good trail, would go back and hike it

My favorite trail in Bend so far and it’s close to town! Beautiful views through the forest and of the river. Definitely one I’ll continue to go to!

Listen to the sounds of the river all run long! Smooth trails and good shade. Watch out for mosquitoes if you’re hiking or stopped for a break.

Eh...not very interesting hike, there's better hikes elsewhere. Way too many people with off-leash dogs that are supposed to be on leash

This trail is beautiful, with a lot of shade, big trees, and cool views of Tumalo Creek. However, I would not rate this as "easy" for a beginner rider. I am not a beginner, but my girlfriend is and this was her third MTB, ever. There were quite a few steep/punchy climbs than expected, as well as a few technical rock sections and switchbacks that I also did not expect. This is probably an easy trail for hiking, but as for riding, I would put it more towards a "moderate" trail. It is suitable for beginners, as long as they don't mind getting off and walking a few sections :-)

Very easy and well maintained trail. Some great scenery and bridges across the creek. I’d recommend doing the Tumalo Creek trail as well as it goes along the creek and has some beautiful spots and places for the kids to skip rocks or climb across fallen logs.

Good spot close to town for an exercise walk (run or bike). Several loop options through woods, ridge line and beside creek. The loop options are about 5 miles each with no elevation gain.

Great easy trail that lasts a couple hours. Mild inclines and declines and some offers some diversity (hot and sandy then woodsy and watery etc). Easy to follow trail markings

Running

Great set of trails close to Bend to run on. Also, good for hiking. There are multiple intersecting trails that make it easy to create your own run/hike. It’s worth checking out especially if you don’t have time to go to some of the popular trails further out of town.
