Love this trail, it's beautiful not super hard. Some nice fishing in some of the lakes also!

Beautiful hike. A lot of down trees on the way up but a couple of crews were up there clearing the trail. On the way back to the trail head there was a huge difference in the trail. No more trees down less brush on the trail. Still a lot of big rocks and areas where it's hard to keep traction. It's the side of a mountain can't expect there to not be rocks/trees.

the trail is great scenery. the issue is with the fallen trees that block the trail for the first 3 miles

Fantastic trip! I would not call this well maintained or highly frequented trail however. Or at least, it wasn't when we were there. The entire 1st mile of the trip is covered in tree fall and bypasses. Be sure you bring a headlamp or other light source if there's even a chance of returning past dusk (trees are thick, with little ambient light, coupled with frequent unmarked bypasses forcing you to leave the trail and re-acquire.
Trail opens up as you gain elevation. The pass before devils peak leads you down into a cool pocket and Alta lake. Cliff Lake not far after that. We went in early July and the mosquitoes were quite bad. Went on a Sunday and didn't see a soul at the trailhead or on the trail.

Was planning to spend a couple days up at cliff lake but the weather turned pretty bad quickly. Turned the trip into a day hike. Very nice trail with some great lakes in the basin.

I havent visited all the lakes in this area yet. I did however make it to lake Alta which was my only goal. Even in the middle of summer lake Alta was still frozen and the last 5 miles i hiked on top of the snow and lost the trail. there are many open medows that offer a wonderful view of the night sky. Highly recomened
