This is a beautiful point-to-point hike. The parking lot at the trailhead at the beginning was recently graveled and widened. Hike across the road and enter the forest. Shortly there is a creek crossing. The terrain after includes rolling forest, Alpine wetlands, and Basalt crossings. There are many views of the North Sister, as well as the Middle Sister, Mount Jefferson, Three Finger Jack, Mount Jefferson, and a glimpse of Broken Top. The end of the hike, close to the Observatory, consists of walking on basalt. Once you come out at highway 242, you can hike a short distance east to the observatory and bathrooms.
