Definitely need a high clearance vehicle for the Forest Road 810 section. Did not realize the area was open to hunting so would definitely check hunting seasons before hiking in this area again. The hike had some beautiful views from the top.

HikingGreat!

Road in (NF810) from Big Lake side was slow going at times in Subaru Legacy (2mi with some rocks). Walk up to lookout was great even though top view was a bit Smokey.

Great hike to the lookout tower today. Amazing views of more than 7 mountains, buttes, and craters. The road to get to the trailhead is a bumpy and at times rocky OHV/ATV road so you definitely need a high clearance vehicle unless you want to do a longer hike and hike from the main road. On a Sunday afternoon I only passed one dirt bike, but there were many more ATV'S in the area on Fri and Sat, so would be best to avoid those days.

First to Review

Tried to do this trail in July. Although it includes the Santiam Wagon Road, it is an OHV area. I tried to park and hike in, but the dust and danger factor from the dirt bikes had me quickly heading back to my car. I will try during another season. Update 6/30: Completed hike today. Overcast so missed the big peaks, but I appreciated the lookout and what I could see from the top! No issues with dirt bikes, but I took FS 810 in, and it is one rocky, bumpy road. Lookout was closed due to COVID. Overall fun adventure.
