Just went out to this trail today (Oct. 27th 2019)- unfortunately the road was closed due to road construction. I'm guessing it is closed for the season for maintenance, etc. but not entirely sure. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up if you were planning to go anytime soon. It looked like a beautiful hike and what we were able to see was amazing (hence the 4 stars) so we are planning to go back in the late spring/early summer.

Lots of amazing wildflowers and berries. Would not recommend the road without 4WD. You could make it to Natural Arch trail without it though. Should be rated as difficult- it’s short and steep. We got rained on and it was foggy, so no view to speak of for us, but we still enjoyed it.

The road into the area is in good condition. However 3/4 way up I would say the road changes from hard pack dirt/gravel to rock. The road is passable by all vehicles however there are loose and sharp rocks so beware. My pick up made it up just fine. Slow and steady on this one. If you are not comfortable with roads as this use caution as there are drop offs. Rocks in the top area do fall onto the road so you must watch for changing conditions. Going down the grade is a brake killer if you like to ride brakes. Downshift and you will be fine. Trail head parking is ample, only one other car there on mid afternoon on a Saturday. Only two other vehicles were passed on the road. Trail is clear and dry today. The grade is steep in some areas and there is loose rock on the trail so be aware of this. Wildflowers are blooming nicely making or good photos. At the top there was a nice breeze and views in all directions that are amazing. All of the major mountains in the region are visible - and snow capped. This hike was well worth the research of the area and the trip up the road by all means.

I love this mountain top. last weekend it was great. Amazing 360 degrees view. Unfortunately it was very foggy and hazy from the rain of the night before. Close to the top on the north side the trail was still covered in snow, so be careful. Wildflower are coming on nicely. The road up to the trail head is still rough and full of deep pot holes.

Berm of snow three miles from the trail head. Its compacted ice so it was too much for my SUV to grip and get over. Will try again soon.

This is a good little run up the mountain. It's more difficult than moderate. It's a good path but steep. Go in the summer. Normally snow till July, but this year it was clear in April. Take a truck, some cars could make it but as someone that has done it with a car I advise at least something with clearance. Rocks fall on the road all the time and it can be sketchy trying to get around as one side is a straight drop off and the other side of the road is a wall. One of the best views!

The drive up is freaky and the hike is very steep on one side. The view is worth it though. There were also a lot of flies on the hike but also beautiful butterflies. I recommend not to do this hike in 90 degree weather like I did.

The drive up to this trail is insane. We got all the way up and didn’t even hike bc we were so spooked by the road. It’s about 8 miles uphill on gravel.. and the very top where it is steepest/most narrow/huge cliff drop offs is the rockiest terrain. Even in 4 wheel drive it is scary, and few turn arounds. View at top is pretty but not worth dying over. Also would recommend a group bc you are very isolated. Currently logging is being conducted about 2.5 mi up, but we went on a weekend so wasn’t an issue (might be during the week). To safely drive it’s about 50 min ea. way.

About a foot of snow a mile before you hit the trail head. Beware! I had a Subaru and it was super icey and scary on the side of a cliff. Couldn’t hike because of that.

Went here to watch the solar eclipse this morning (Amazing experience - in the range of totality). There was smoke from the wildfires that went through all the mountains but it still looked pretty. Could see Mnt. Hood. Short hike but pretty uphill the whole time.

It's a beautiful view, the drive up is a little crazy. Make sure you have good tires and follow the signs cause the maps for navigation is misleading.

Would like to do this one again because it was all foggy at the top, but could only imagine the views from the top. Pretty easy but quick climb.

Beautiful day for a hike! Short, but steep. Well worth the short climb. The road and signage to the trailhead was a bit sketchy, but found it without getting lost...

Great views. Road driving in was a little rough.

Short and sweet amazing views and nice rock outcroppings. I went mid May and there was patches of snow to cross on the trail towards the top.

For a short hike, Rock Top was surprisingly satisfying! You only gain about 600ft in elevation but you do so in less than a mile. Hiking this in the midst of fall was very worth it too! Between the waves of crisp fog drifts you can see the sun peaking through the clouds onto the valley floor. The reddening of leaves on bushes spattered throughout the landscape complement the evergreen trees along the trail. The drive to the trailhead is about 8.2 miles off hwy 22. The entire stretch is gravel with a few steeper sections. Don't forget to visit the natural arch along the way!

Pretty steep but not to far. Took us about 30 minutes including several stops for photo ops. AMAZING views at the top!!

We were originally wanting to hike the natural rock arch trail but decided to check this one out first. It was a great hike. Almost completely uphill trails and the from the top is amazing.
