NOTE: The parking area is currently closed due to COVID-19. You have to park down the street and walk to the trailhead. Please check the park website for more information. This trail is closed to bikes December - February. The Nature Park largely consists of 2 basic areas, first is the southern and western portions which are on a slope that is thickly forested. The other is the Butte or flatter upper areas with fields of flowers and grasses and Cascade views. The trails are marked and well maintained. You can do a 6+ mile loop hike by combining multiple trails together, with more than 70% of the hike in the forest.

Absolutely loved the differences in scenery along this hike. There’s the more enclosed, beautiful green foliage, and then there’s the wide, open space and pine trees for miles. I decided to follow the paths and take different trails to make my hike a bit longer. It was a wonderful hike! Right now, the parking lot is closed so I just had to park by mobile homes on the street of a neighborhood.

Amazing hike with the dogs. There are several different trails as well as different terrain ( in the forest was muddy and slippery, but after that a beautiful gravel path of Summit Lane and even parts have asphalt) there is a nice picnic area with table and benches. Hiking shoes and poles highly recommended. Great for kids and dogs. I loved it. Glad to discover it. More to come as I will return.

Took my 6 & 4yr to the mountain viewpoint with my leashed dog. It was a little hard for the kids but they were happy to have accomplished the trip when they saw how far they had walked!

I didn’t follow the recommended loop, but there are tons of trails, lots of it gravel. It was a beautiful day and you could see all the mountains from the top!

This is a nice easy hike with nice views of Mt. Hood and Mt. St. Helens. Wide, well-marked trails. Very crowded today due to sun and people wanting to get outside to escape coronavirus social distancing. 3/15/20

I was worried this park would be too urban to enjoy but was pleasantly surprised by nice trails in mostly forested areas. There was a wonderful open butte lookout complete with a guide indicating where all the visible mountains are. Well, maybe not visible today but they would be on a clear day! There is a visitor center (where we started) with educational information. Unfortunately they were out of maps so I was once again thankful for my AllTrails map. This cloudy rainy day made for a great balance of solitude and the occasional hiker. Lots of folks brought their dogs with many off leash and very well behaved. I was pleasantly surprised at this oasis in the city. We saw no trash, the trails were well marked and in good shape. Contrary to what we had been warned about there were no sketchy people around. I can’t say that I’ll be back because I feel I’ve done it but I’m definitely glad I went. Moderate is a good description as there are some uphill climbs but mostly easy terrain.

Pretty nice trail for multiple uses, not too difficult, and appreciate that it’s in this area of Portland. It can be crowded however and there is horse and dog poop about.

A great hiking option without driving too far out of the city. Nice to have forested tails and open trails. Parking can be limited

A great resource that is close by with good covered canopy trails South, West and North sides, open Meadow trails near the summit, Dog friendly my dog loves it there, well-marked Trail Junctions with maps. Good rain runoff in the ravines in canopied area draining into Johnson Creek. Good short hike without the long drive.
