The trail begins with old growth fir and hemlock forest all around which provide a nice bit of shade. Plaikni Falls trail is a pleasant hike and relatively easy at 1.1 miles to the waterfall (2.2 miles round trip). The only real issue for most is that because its so short, its difficult to get away from other people if youre looking for a bit of solitude it can get congested. The trail travels through the trees and along rocky bluffs until it hits Sand Creek where it opens up to wildflowers and lush vegetation at the base of Plaikni Falls.

Nice little trail to the falls with no one around. I did it fairly early in the morning. When I got to the falls I saw a Rock Chuck or also known as a Marmot by the falls. That was interesting since I've only seen a few and it was the first my dog has seen.

Not crowded. No mosquitoes today, but also no wildflowers. A bit too late in the season, I guess. Easy walk along a well established trail. Slight incline the last 1/4 mile, but nothing tough.

Too many folks.

Hiked this trail July 24, 2018. Easy walk to the falls. Lots of wildflowers and butterflies.

Short and easy hike to the Plaikni Falls. Tons of mosquitos on the trail, beware!

The hike to the falls is not scenic. Trail surface is unobstructed. The variety of flowers at the falls was nice.

Surprising trail with a nice reward at the end. Trail is mostly flat with a slight incline at the falls. We hiked between 2-3PM when the sun is on the falls and makes better pictures. The wildflowers were awesome along with hundreds of butterflies. Don't miss this one at Crater Lake NP.

Very nice trail. Quite a lot of people, so we didn’t get too close to the actual waterfall. The flowers were all in full bloom and the butterflies were plentiful. It was a simple hike with a fantastic waterfall and a rushing brook as well.

An explosion of wildflowers and butterflies! The walk to the falls is on a wide, flat hard-packed gravel trail appropriate for almost all ages and abilities. Even a person being pushed in a wheelchair can go all the way up to the falls. The forest is pleasant and fragrant but ordinary. Then come the falls! We were there in mid-July and the wildflowers were spectacular—over a dozen kinds covering the creek banks in profusion. A hundred (or so) tiny blue butterflies were drinking from puddles on the path and anyone who reached down soon had a butterfly or two on their fingers. The falls are lovely, too (If you have an iPhone, take a Live Photo and convert it to long exposure!). Definitely worth taking a picnic or guitar or drawing pad and spending some time at this beautiful destination. Mosquitos are abundant. No bathroom at trailhead or anywhere on the trail.

A very pleasant walk through the drier forest up to the wetter areas and then the waterfall. Some moderate parts but not strenuous at all - we walked it in well less than an hour, including a good stop at the falls. Definitely recommend wearing insect repellent, as the mosquitoes are relentless. Also look out for the tiny butterflies on the ground near the stop for the waterfall at the end of the trail! Several of them had been squished which was quite sad to see.

Bring bug spray. Lots of mosquitos. Relatively flat easy hike, nice fall at the end.

Nice, wooded trail that winds through wet bottom area with reasonably gentle incline toward the Fall. Much insect life to observe such as a myriad of butterflies and very large, black beetles. This is a great trail for curious, little kids! Trail is maintained well by the park and appears to be weathering constant use. It is not a lightly-trafficked trail. The Fall attracts plenty of visitors, and rightly so. Large and refreshing in late summer, it's a beautiful jewel in the Crater Lake crown.

Nice wide trail.

Really beautiful forest!!!

The hike itself was pretty easy, the smell of pine was refreshing, and the falls were beautiful. The "lightly trafficked" description above was a major understatement today however (late August). Plenty of people on the trail from start to finish, and a small stadium crowd at the falls was a detractor.

Nice hike with a great waterfall at the end.

An incredible new trail. tons of people but wide enough to share. wide open forest, enchanting wildflowers and an awesome waterfall. We trailed right after the rim race, what a day.

We drove thru Crater Lake on our way home from Salem. the trail was easy to walk through and was clearly marked. there was a guided tour that began at 2:00 pm, but we just took the trail on our own. there really was no reason to have a tour guide. The water fall was gorgeous. We walked it with our 3 teenagers. The butterflies were fun to photograph.

Went on a Saturday afternoon in the summer. Not a huge parking lot, but got a spot. A few cars were parked on the side of rode with enough room. Easy walk, with a creek to follow, wildflowers and you get right up to the falls. Beautiful! Recommended you keep driving after this to the end of Pinnacle Rd for a quick walk out to see the Pinnacles, very cool as well.

very easy hike to the falls ..

Monday, August 22, 2016

This is really more of a leisurely walk through the he forest than a hike. The waterfall at the end is pretty although it is not fantastic. In addition because of the easy access of be trail, it is semi- crowded at the end in front of the waterfall. My biggest recommendation is to bring bug spray as there are multitudes of mosquitos. This would be a good walk for those who may not be in the best of shape or have small children

Small hike + waterfalls = Loads of people

Busy trail but we timed it perfectly to avoid the crowds that can accumulate at the falls area.

Beautiful waterfull. Nice easy hike. A must to see.

Easy hike to a beautiful waterfall. It's a quick detour from the lake, and a great look at the rest of the park.

Very easy hike although I would suggest mosquito repellent and they were every where. Waterfall at the end was very nice. As said in previous review this is a new trail they are building and one of the only wheel chair able ones I know of.
