Walking

Walking on train tracks, then a short distance on an actual dirt trail, then 2+ miles on the pipeline. Didn’t really enjoy walking on an elevated, narrow, metal walkway with railings for that long. Tight quarters in the COVID world too.

Great short and easy afternoon hike. Great for kiddos and those who enjoy more of a leisurely stroll. Lightly trafficked!

Walking

Nice trail! When you get to the parking lot and you’re facing the river, the trail entrance is on your left. It wasn’t super obvious. You walk along the railroad tack for a bit and then the trail cuts off to the right along the river. Most of the trail is walking on grates along a pipeline which is fun, but not friendly for puppy feet - be prepared to carry your dog. The waterfall mentioned is a tiny one hidden off to the right side when you’re almost to the end of the trail - it’s easy to miss. There are a couple of places to get off the pipeline and wander down closer to the river with little, unkept trails through there. It was a lovely walk!

easy pipe line trail. the first part you can choose to walk the track or the trail along the water. would not recommend the actual pipeline part for kids or dogs. beautiful views of the water.

Running

Awesome trail for running because it is fairly flat. Very unique, as it follows the river and runs on top of the pipeline after the first segment. The areas over the pipeline are metal and get slippery with the rain. Also, because it is a metal track over the pipeline, there is very little room to move over if you encounter another runner/hiker.

Probably went on the wrong day, and brought our dogs. You walk along the river and over the railroad tracks. The tracks were super slick this morning, so be careful. The road leading to the parking lot has HUGE potholes, and certain sections benefit from high clearance. It's beautiful along the river and I'd love to come back - but today was not the right day for it

Walking

Stroller not approved. I suppose you may be able to take a running stroller maybe but the tracks would be a pain and then I’m not sure if it would fit on the grates. The road to the trailhead is not maintained well. Huge potholes, though my Camry made it. I took my dog and that wasn’t the best idea. I didn’t plan this trek so that’s my fault. I wouldn’t recommend brining a dog. The walk will become a carry for them. Pretty though, really pretty. Didn’t see many people on the trail.

Easy trail, follow railroad tracks past the gate. River was pretty, you definitely walk on top of the pipeline, on a metal grate to where it ends. Sunny day & even a film crew filming a coming of age , Samantha Rose, crew seemed nice.

Nice, easy trail. Once you get past the railroad tracks and along the river, it gets really pretty. Interesting walking on the pipeline! We went on a Friday morning around 10:30 and only met a few groups. The road going to the trailhead is very bumpy, so take it slow when you pull off of 35.

Really nice easy trail. Not many people and some great spots for swimming off the main trail. Unique in the fact that you walk along the pipeline. Great views of the Hood River.

Loved the trail - beautiful river views and sounds, easy going and unique given you are walking along a metal grate over an old pipeline. NOTICE - not good for dogs - metal grate would be far too hard on their paws - glad we left our pups at home!!

Easy, flat, a nice stroll. Very dry out, so nothing tricky about the trail. Love the novelty of walking atop the pipeline for so long but there are few exciting features beyond that.

Made a stop in Hood River, this is a great trail for kids. Nice places to stop along the river side paths lead off to Beaches. Unable to social distance on metal bridge that goes on for quite a distance. The views were spectacular, I wouldn’t say there’s really a waterfall on this trail, but overall a nice nature walk with the family.

Easy stroll alongside a river and a train track. Train track proximity is a little sketchy but doesn’t feel unsafe either. A really cool metal bridge thing about a mile with a beautiful view of the river. Not too covid friendly from there as it’s hard to pass people on the bridge without getting close so we turned around.
