A quick hike up for a 360 degree view of the high desert. It's a quick mile each way from the base to the summit, short enough that there's a kiosk showing the trail running times to get to the top. Once you reach the top, there are views of all the Oregon Cascades and the surrounding high desert.

Easy hike up a wider asphalt road. Winds up the butte. Nice view of all the surrounding mountains on top. Took both my shepherds on leash for this hike.

Nice 360 views of the area at the top. A good quickie option if you can't get further out of town.

You are walking up pavement to a great view of Bend and the surrounding area. Be careful of cars and bikes on the road as there is not much room on the pavement. This review is not for the trail head which is different.

Not a nature hike, but a fun adventure for kids if you go to explore rather that to walk up/down for exercise! Great view though! I prefer driving up! Stay as long as I want and leaving!

Decided to catch the sunrise here. The road that allows you to drive straight up to the top is currently closed for the season. But we had anticipated on hiking up anyways. There's two trails, one is 0.8 miles one way and the other one is longer. We opted for the shorter one, of course, so we could catch the sunrise. The trail wraps around Pilot Butte, which makes for a very scenic hike on the way up. Pilot Butte is an extinct volcano and it's one of four in the entire country that's actually located inside of a city. The top is absolutely gorgeous - provides a 360 viewpoint of Bend and you can see Mt. Bachelor, Three Sisters, Mt. Jefferson, Mt. Washington, and Mt. Hood. I can only imagine how much more beautiful this hike is in the fall when all of the trees are different colors.

Great short hike with rewarding views! I like to take the nature trail on the way up, and the road on the way down for variety.

The view is fantastic from the top but it's usually pretty crowded. Great place to take visitors.

Great 360 degree view of Central Oregon from the peak of this in-town butte! Heavy foot traffic (along with actual traffic as there is a paved road for vehicles up to the top as well) somewhat distracts, but the reason it's so popular is plain to see, the views of the Cascade Range, Deschutes/Paulina Forest and the High Desert are amazing!
