Hiked from Elk Lake TH on Horse Lake Trail to PCT to Dee Wright Observatory with 4 workmates. Mileage was approx 29 miles, 2 nights-3 day trip. What a blast! Saw a black fox with a white-tipped tail kill it’s dinner right in front of our campsite, mark a bush and then meander back into the trees. Trail was perfectly maintained and water was accessible throughout route, although seasonal springs were dry. Lava rocks were more challenging to hike but trail was not severe in grade. Would highly recommend this section of PCT for views and moderate difficulty.
