You can either drive to the top or hike to the top for a dramatic view of Bend and the Sisters Volcano Complex. This is one of those "must see" things in Oregon. This peak is the highest point of the Newberry National Volcanic Monument. There are plenty of campground spots along the lakes where you can spend the night in preparation for a very early rise to do this trip.

Beautiful trail and a good challenge, too. The views are amazing, though lots of smoke today blanketed things a bit.

2 hours up on the trail. Some small areas of snow, but we didn't need our yak trax. Road was closed so the parking lot was empty:) Came down on the road which was totally snow free. A great day, unbelievable views, worth all the effort. Found a completely burned up snowmobile on the road on the way down.

This was a pretty simple two mile hike to the top. It was a beautiful view. quite dusty and dry. The trail is uphill the whole way but easy to follow. The peak is a parking lot which is always kind of a bummer, but I am glad I hiked rather than drove because there are some awesome, private scenic spots along the way. Not to mention hiking is always more rewarding.

Hiked this with my wife today, not real difficult but there is some long steep sections but plenty of areas to take a break. Fantastic views and worth the hike.

I loved this hike! Yes, it was a very hard hike but it was also amazing! It's not as bad as I thought it was going to be. But it is also a 1,400 ft elevation gain in 2 miles. Bring lots of water if you are going to do this hike! (:

A short yet challenging forest trail with amazing views. Some sections near the top still had snow (today, June 20th).

Steep but the trail is well groomed and plenty of spots to stop and take in the scenery. I took the shortcut and skipped the flat section of trail and jumped on the trail when it crosses the access road.

I have some great memories (and also scary ones) of snowmobiling up this with my Dad. If you haven't done this, by hike, snowmobile, car, or whatever, you should! It's beautiful and there is a lot to learn about the volcanic history of this area and specifically the Newberry Crater. Paulina Lodge is also open in winter for snowmobilers, cross country skiers, and snowshoers.

A good hike with a great view at the end. Do note that, as of now, there is still a bit of snow on the ground. However, from what those who drove it told me, the road to the top is clear.
