This trail is mostly flat with a few uphill areas. The views of the lake and caldera are great. There are hot springs along the lakeshore. Scenic trail with mostly dirt beneath your feet, although there are several rocky areas. Easy difficulty mostly flat with a few up and down areas.

Parking lot was closed so began hike at the campground next door. Hiked clockwise around the lake and enjoyed all of the beauty and various terrain it offered. Hot springs were cool! Only issue was a sign around 5 miles saying that the trail was closed for tree removal from the group camping area to the end of the trail. We were not about to turn around and walk 5 miles BACK so we kept going. I would suggest they place signs of trail closure at EVERY parking area. Would definitely hike again!

Easy hike with only a couple elevation gains. Lots of lake access which was great for our dog to cool down! Great landscapes with cool volcano rocks. Only part we didn’t love was part of it was on a paved road through a camp ground...otherwise it was awesome!

Really beautiful trail with a lot of opportunities to hop in the lake! Overall not to many hills and not very difficult trail conditions. Would recommend to any hiker looking for a good distance that is fun for beginners and experienced hikers. Only issue is that for about 1.5 miles you are walking through campsites which is not as fun and beautiful as the rest of the hike!

Awesome hike. Pretty dang flat, but still a few areas with small elevation gains which made for cool views and photo ops. Lots of creatures, birds, bugs and wildlife. Loved being able to take a few steps off the trail and be right on the water. Walked with my fishing pole the whole time and there were a TON of fish right off the trail. Bring bug repellant just in case. Only reason it doesn’t get 5-stars is because you have to walk through campgrounds with paved roads, which was fine. We will definitely do this hike again.

Beautiful views and an easy trail around the lake. Hot springs on north side are interesting. Great to soak then jump in the lake. They’re not huge soaking spots. Best place to swim is on the SW corner where there are big rocks to jump off of.

This was a fun and unique hike. It's quite easy, as the terrain is mostly flat, with a few modest inclines of short duration. It is unique in that you will hike on dirt trails, lava rock, obsidian, grass, mud, and even pavement! The trail literally goes right through 2 campgrounds, which is nice if someone needs a quick potty break. So there's your pavement portion. The obsidian and lava rock areas are pretty cool, but I advise you not to take your dog(s) on this trail without booties, as this stuff could cut up their poor little paws. Where the trail follows the lakeshore closely, it's mostly grass and in some sections also a bit muddy. Also of course the closer you are to the water, the worse the mosquitos. But overall they weren't too bad. At a steady pace, we finished this hike in just over 3 hours.

Hiked on 6/18/19-no snow, minimal bugs. Beautiful views, especially around back side of lake. The altitude is around 6200 feet so be sure to dress accordingly! My only complaint is about the time I had hiked 4 miles or so and arrived at the hot springs a party boat full of people pulled up and took over the hot springs! I feel like you should have to work for your soak by hiking there, not cruising across the lake!

Not too many mosquitoes unless you are right by the swamp. No mosquitoes repellent used, no bites. Great for dogs. Would do this again and take more breaks and pictures to enjoy the views.

Awesome hike. No mosquitoes. Beautiful views the whole way, especially when Paulina Peak is in the frame.

Awesome hike! I did it in middle of October and there were no bugs and the weather was absolutely fabulous. Really beautiful loop and a great chance to walk right through a crazy obsidian field.

Has all the different types of terrain to see in the area; forest, swamp, desert with lava rock, ect. Absolutely beautiful!

Would like to hike this whole trail. It’s a serine lake with a variety of vegetation. Peaceful and enjoyable.

Beautiful views, and amazing geology with very little effort, but it's also not a one-mile-and-done tourist trail. Even on a weekend day in midsummer, I had it all to myself, and there were only a few other folks at the springs.

Meh.. it’s pretty and the water is beautiful but the bugs were OUT OF CONTROL! So many nats and mosquitos. The “hot springs” are saying it nicely... they’re shallow but do provide a lot of heat.

Fun trail with great views of the lake. Definitely recommend starting early and wearing solid hiking shoes as some of the terrain can get a bit sketchy. Otherwise very easy for pros, maybe a little challenging for novices. Took about 3 hours.

While not much elevation gain/loss, there is varied terrain throughout this hike. Dirt, rock, gravel, sand; need to watch your footing as it's easy to trip. The views around the lake are gorgeous. I recommend starting your hike about 10 - 11 am, hike to the hot springs on the edge of the lake (about halfway around and marked), each lunch and relax, then finish. I've hiked quite a few trails around Central Oregon and really enjoyed this one. Would do again.

The lake was pretty, but it was congested with campers. The views of the lake were the same the whole trail.

Cool hike but the view was the same throughout it.

great hike! Hiked at night with headlamps with a few other friends. if you know the trail well enough, you can find the natural hot springs! very cool.

Easy loop trail around the lake. Views are spectacular. Water on the far side of the lake is emerald green. Could sit and look at Paulina peak for a long time. Weather cooperated in a beautiful 65 degree cloudless way. Saw a soaring bald eagle and several osprey.

Parked near the camp grounds and walked the little crater trail then on to the "hot springs". Nice view of the large obsidian flow south of the lake from the little crater trail. Continued on along the lake trail to the "hot springs" past a cool pumice and obsidian flow. A couple of wet marshy areas along the way had some bugs but not too bad. The "hot springs" were really one or two holes dug into the grassy shoreline, and not what we were expecting. Great views, beautiful lake, and a very easy trail at least on the east side. Would have done the entire lake lol but the kids were burnt out for our previous days trips.
