I completed the Onion creek trail in late August 2013. The trail is Brutal. Steep, rocky, and very narrow. I used Onion Creek to complete the loop to Strawberry Mountain and then through the meadow to strawberry lake. Overall it was a 2 day backpacking trip that covered approx 12.5 miles. The views from onion creek down to prairie city and John Day are spectacular. This is a trail that I'm glad I did, but most likely will never attempt again. The open meadow about half way up has plenty of trail markers as there really isn't a trail in this are. Please be warned that its a true butt burner and your knees will be pissed at you when your finished.
