03/24/21 - NF 4601 was covered In snow. We had about 9miles left to reach the trail head and had to turn around due to the snow conditions. The views on our way up were beautiful. Vehicle: 4Runner w. extra clearance

HikingGreat!

This trail is my favorite type of hiking in a sub alpine terrain with beautiful views every where! The road in was a challenge, just go slow and saw a lot of stock Subaru wagons parked in the lot so they made it just fine! It was steeper than I expected but beautiful and if you want photos start early for great light! This is a must do hike in Oregon and hope to hike it next year a little earlier while the lake is still green.

Perfect trail, steep, great reward at the top with stunning views of all the nearby peaks, even the tip of my adams. Can get hot, trail is not covered so prepare for lots of sun.

Great trail and amazing views at the top. The road to get there is rough one and I’m highly recommend a vehicle with higher clearance! We were on the trail by 8am on a Monday morning and didn’t see a single soul until we headed back.

Very rough road, we had our Jeep Grand Cherokee and had no issues. There was one point where ol' lady and I pushed a Subaru outback out of a tricky spot. The hike is awesome, very steep at points and you'll be in the sun through most of the hike, shade was pretty sparse. On 10/3/2020 the smoke was blocking most of the views at the top.

Great hike, loved seeing one of the streams spring fed coming out of the lava rock. Well worth the effort to continue hiking up the ridge past no name lake. Heavily traveled. Last 4 miles to the trail head is the roughest road I have ever driven - it doesn't stop most people from going though.

Beautiful views and not difficult at all, had 5 kids with us. The drive up was the nerve-wracking part, but even that was just one spot with a really deep rut about 3/4 mile from start of unmaintained road. Subaru Outback made it fine. If you can make it past there, should be good to go. That being said, a truck had broken its axle rod on the trail the previous day, so it is definitely a sketchy bumpy road!

It was a cold and windy day but still an enjoyable hike. It’s a quite easy hike overall. The hard part is the dirt road from Todd lake to the Broken Top TH which has one spot where a high clearance type car is needed. We drove a Crosstrek and saw a Rav4 at TH. It takes about 30 min to drive the 4 miles on the dirt road.

CampingGreat!

It was a steady uphill the whole time, which makes it a breeze coming down. I hiked in my chacos, not a good idea lol you’ll get dusty and the tiny rocks hurt. Have a 4 wheel drive with clearance because it’s a really rough road with huuuuge potholes going up. Made it in a Subaru Forester. The views are beautiful the whole hike.

There’s one part of the road that’s pretty bad but for the most part, it’s doable in a high clearance vehicle going really slowly. We were able to make it up in our Subaru Outback. The hike is so worth it if you can make it. Absolutely beautiful views at the top and one of my all time favorite hikes!

Have a capable vehicle to get up the road, and drive sensibly. Our Toyota Highlander made it, but the road was not for a novice. The trail was AMAZING, and I want to share it with all my friends!

Tough hike but worth the work. Coming from San Diego, the elevation gain here definitely kicked my ass. Arrived to the trail head at 9 AM on Sunday and the lot was full. We just parked off to the side. Highly recommend trekking poles if you got em. Fell on my ass twice. Would do it again though!
