Getting There

NOTE: During Summer 2020, check road/trail closures before visiting, due to timber harvesting. This is a quick walk in the woods that is great for those out of town visitors. From the Lewisberg Saddle north gate, take the 500 or Nettleton Road and head up 1/4 mile. Take the first right or 5030 road (over grown a little) and head up till the road ends, then take the single track trail back down to your car. 1/2 mile round trip and good for a nice leisurely hike with some elevation gain, but not much. The last part is muddy in the winter.

Oregon State University Department of Forestry

From Corvallis, Oregon take HWY 99 W north. Take a left at the light onto Lewisburg Road, then after a mile take a gradual right onto Sulfer Springs Road and follow to the top of the hill or "saddle." At the top there is a small parking lot on your right (north) side. The orange gate is your trailhead.

Great trail! Check road/trail closures due to timber harvest - will be affected most of summer 2020. Couldn’t do loop that I had planned, ended up more of an out and back.

So peaceful, so quiet. A little muddy in some spots but nothing too bad. I went later in the afternoon for my doggo and I was perfect. This trail reminded me of trails home in Washington, made me very happy. I especially love the multiple pathways and larger open logging roads. 10/10

Very muddy, and clay turns quite slippery. Beautiful forest with well maintained trails and great for weekday after work runs

Hiking

My intent today was to hike for exercise on a simple loop, I don't particularly like this trail. Surprised by the morning light! Around 10ishAM in November the sunshine brought out the green moss, lichen and ferns, all at times even stunning. I stopped many times to take it all in, kind of necessary with Oregon winter coming; tried to capture a few snapshots. On the downhill forest road keep your eyes up and northeast to see a humongous mistletoe in the tree top. It's beginning to become muddier and slick with the autumn leaves now packed down - wear your trail runners with lug soles or hiking boots.

half the trail is a real trail, half is the limber road. The app actually takes you off the mark trail and on to the lumber road sooner...

Not too crowded. Well-maintained. Neat little stove with chimney at the summit.

Nice wide trail, moderately steep climb for part of it. The last third is all fire road.
