If you're looking for a beach-combing walk with the welcomed feeling of eternity, this is it. And not just because it's a longish hike but because the view is endless while also never feeling the same. I went in September and I think autumn is the perfect time for this hike. It's not a typical autumn hike for color but the weather is just cooperative enough to probably be comfortable (warm and mostly sunny/dry), and just stormy enough to allow for interesting scenery and photographic opportunities. Check tide tables to be extra safe and allow you to walk on the hard-packed beach as opposed to hoofing it in the loose stuff - unless that's the challenge you want. I love this walk!

Awesome walk along the shore north of Cape Lookout SP. Replete with sand dollars, seals and Sandy plovers. The endless of the spit has a great view of the three arches, a group of sea stacks in the mouth of Netarts Bay. A beautiful day hike with ample opportunity for solitude

Hubby and I tried to do this trail after Cape Lookout this past weekend 2/12 and made it about 3 miles out before the spit was pretty much under water. Most of the beach was inaccessible with the tide and it being so rocky. I thought I might have gotten the wrong directions but GPS said I was in the correct area. We will attempt it in the summer.
