Can it get better?! Great hike, good exercise, outstanding views in every direction, but of course the sight of the bluest of lakes from the highest point in the park is one you won’t forget. For my full trip report with video, photos and story, as well as links to other great hikes see my blog: https://nationalparkshikingpursuingbalancethruadventure.wordpress.com/2020/02/04/back-country-camping/

Great trail, shaded in some parts but majority of it will be in the open. You will find the occasional tree to get some shade and rest. Hike is challenging but not crazy difficult. The view at the top is spectacular but it is very crowded and there is no place to really enjoy the view or grab a quick lunch with the crater lake view. Be sure to go on a moderately sunny day!

Perfect grade trail and perhaps enough to deter the weekend warriors? Crater lake describes it as ‘difficult’ but everything in life is relative. Great views and a wee bit of a workout to boot!

Great trail, steep during majority of trail along Mount Scott. Hiked around 7a and arrived on the top about 9a, plenty of panoramic views from Klamath, Crater Lake and to Diamond Lake.

Recommended highly, good trail, easy going 2 mile up to get just shy of 9 grand. Loved it!

Beautiful pre-sunrise hike. Once up, fantastic view of Crater Lake once the sun broke the horizon. Not at all technical or challenging.

Would go in the morning to avoid the heat - no shade. Moderate hike - it is a constant, moderate uphill so may be a challenge for some. Took a little less than an hour to get to the top, and less than that on the way down. Views are better at various points along the way up than at the actual fire lookout, so take time to stop and enjoy!

Easy trail with a steady climb all the way up to the top. 5 miles round trip with gorgeous views from the top.

Love the top view but not as much of a view going up!

Took me under an hour to get to the top. Well-worn, wide, easy trail.

Took about and hour to the top from the parking lot. Left lookout near sunset epic views on the way down. Bring your headlamp. No bugs

I think this is a must if you’re visiting the park! Beautiful views all around. Definitely makes you work for it but so worth it! Great spot to sit and have lunch for awhile at the top and make new friends. It was cool in the morning but we got very hot once we started. Not much shade so definitely wear sunscreen!

A challenging hike but definitely worth it! Beware that there isn't a ton of shade, so I would recommend getting out there early and wearing a hat + bringing lots of water. The summit is amazing. Not only do you get 360 views, but you also walk a Ridgeline to get to an old fire lookout (not open to go into but still cool). The incline is no joke, so mentally prepare and take breaks!

Really enjoyed this trail one of the best trails Ive ever walked which balances effort with an amazing view. We woke up early and were able to have great views before the mist set in and covered the lake. Gradual trail incline lets you enjoy the trail and superb views. it took us 2 hours to do the round trip.

Did this hike and Garfield trail in one day. Awesome hike. Had lunch up top. Will do this again if I am back.

It was all we expected and more! Great 360 view at the summit! Excellent photo ops along the way. Still need a fisheye lens to capture the entire lake in one shot, though. Trail in great shape!

It's a steep hike but worth it to power through it if you can. It took us about 2 hours up with a short stop for lunch and about 1 hour back down. Check the Crater Lake webcam before you decide to do this hike to make sure you can see the lake from up top.

Really amazing view of the lake. It was a beautiful day. No bugs. We got there early so not crowded at all.

Nice hike. Exposed so wear sunblock. Great views at top (and feisty chipmunks). Nice place for lunch. Well maintained trail that while it has elevation is also easy enough for non-seasoned hikers. Only peak in the park you can see the lake from. Worth the trip. Not too crowded a few days ago.

Great trail to amazing views of Crater Lake. It was pretty dry in early August so bring plenty of water.

If you want a good view of crater lake and the surrounding mountains, this is the hike! On the way up you get spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and valleys as well as Mt. Shasta on a good day! The view from the top is worth any struggle you might have!!
