Great hike. Yes, mosquitoes are out. Trail actually loops North for some distance and switches back to the South before heading West up to the lake (not directly West and up across the contour lines as shown on the map.) 5-6 rather clear areas to pitch a tent for the night, or find rather flat ground on the west side of the lake if they're occupied. Several people were fishing, including us, but no one seemed to have any luck. People were catching a lot of trout at Lava Lake.

This is a great short hike with options to go further along the 6 Lake trail. It’s open now and the gate is open- from the south (La Pine). There is a bit of snow. I’d recommend poles and hiking boots right now.

Nice gradual climb to the gorgeous lake. The Trail Head says it's a mile there, but the Fitbit reading logged 1.45 miles. Quite a difference. Worth it, but just FYI on the distance in case you're hiking with kids or something. It took us 33 minutes to reach the lake with 2 dogs.

Easy hike to wilderness, in only a mile in. Camped overnight. Was nice. Lake was kind of warm for filtered drinking water. Was allowed to make fire which was a plus. Recommend for first timers or have children going.

This was a great hike and well worth it to see such a beautiful peaceful lake takes about 20 min is 1.4 miles would def do it again.. Lots of downed trees on the way up.:

This was a really fun, easy trail. Were a LOT of downed trees and not maintained very well. But beautiful lake when you get out there. Is warm in very late summer but can have caddis hatches that get a bit annoying. The edge of the lake is pretty much all covered in logs but there is one small beachy area, but that's at the very entrance and is where most people hang out.
