Decided to hike around Lake Timothy one last time before the end of the year. We parked at Little Crater lake campground and went all the way around. Very lightly snowing through most of it but definitely picked up the last 3-4 miles. Really magical. We did notice the lake was lower than we’ve ever seen it but again just lovely.
It was very easy and super beautiful! Such a great place to spend the day.
Good maintained trail. Surprised by all the camping sites along the way. looking forward to packing in someday!
This trail isn't too long and there's not a huge elevation change. It was a nice walk and Little Crater lake was cool to see. I'd be interested in visiting again to camp and fish.
Little Crater lake is beautiful and the North Arm of Timothy Lake was surprising beautiful due to the color of the lake in this area. The hike is easy - not much up or down. Went on a Friday and it was fairly crowded with several people not wearing masks and not moving over on the trail.
We started at Little Crater Lake Campground and hiked for roughly 3/4ths of a mile to the Timothy Lake Trail. From there we hiked around the entire lake, connecting with the PCT shortly after passing by the Oak Fork Campground, and making our way back to Little Crater Lake. All told it was 13.2 miles, but didn’t seem that long due to very little elevation gain. A great day hike or break it in half and camp along any of the dozens of hike-in camp sites along the north shore.
A 12-mile loop around Timothy Lake through campgrounds and along a section of the Pacific Crest Trail. Moderate difficulty primarily due to distance.
Really cool trail but is very crowded. Lots of bikers, runners and other hikers. Still worth a day hike!
Parking at Little Crater Lake campground then backpacking to Meditation Point on Timothy Lake.
