DO NOT HIKE THIS HIKE!!! now that I have that out of the way I'll give my review. I started this hike pretty late because I left from Boise at 2:30 and arrived at the lake at 4. so I already knew I was doing a later hike. however what I found was nothing I expected. there was no sign of a trail anywhere. and when I finally found the "trail" it turned into a very old not groomed trail. after the first 30 minutes the trail turned into pretty much just weeds and rocks. I got lost every 5 minutes. even with the trail guide. I found quite a few dead deer carcasses which was disturbing. I eventually decided to not find a trail and go up my own path. I got to the top of the cliff and still no sight of a trail. eventually I found some old looking atv marks which turned into a decent trail. the loop part of the trail was all atv marks and was pretty decent to hike on. the view from the top overlooking the lake were absolutely stunning. but by the time I got up there I had to head back because it was getting dark. I ran into a rattlesnake which scared me quite a bit. but I continued in the dark and I eventually got back to the start which I was met by a forest ranger. he informed me what I was hiking on was not a trail and in fact private land which no-one was supposed to go on which explains why the trial was not really a trail. so in conclusion. I didn't get a ticket for hiking. but apparently there is another trail that started a few miles down somewhere on the lake. the ranger had worked at the station for over 5 years and had no idea about the atv trails on the top which he was unsure if it was part of the private land. so all in all. cool but aggravating hike. but don't hike it because it's illegal to
