Kinzel Lake via Salmon River Trail is a 16.6 mile lightly trafficked out and back trail located near Government Camp, Oregon that features a lake and is rated as difficult. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is best used from March until September. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash.

Directions from Sandy: Travel east on Highway 26 for 17.9 miles. Turn south on Salmon River Road and follow it for five miles to the trailhead for the Salmon River Trail #742. Follow this trail for 6.1 miles to the Kinzel Lake Trail

The hike is strenuous! Not for the faint of heart. You don't need to get all the way to the road and down, there are obvious splits along the right side (going up) of Kinzel Lake Trail that lead to the lake and cut off a two hundred feet of climb or so. Sad to see trucks pull in as we reached the lake; all that work and they just drove there!!

Kinzel Lake is more of a small pond, but the water is more than swimmable! Very nice to cool off after the long hike.

Turn this into a loop and make it to the top of Devil's Peak for a really cool old fire lookout!

Omg... My legs will never be the same. I hated switchbacks on climbs... Until I hit this trail that doesn't have any!!! Holly UP! - but a great F'ing workout!
