A steep and demanding trail that takes you up above Tillamook forest, providing spectacular views of the surrounding mountains and opening up to nearby Elk Mountain or other trails.

Left around 1. Mid 30s at trailhead, moderate rain. Turned to snow and slick after 1400'. Powder as you near the summit. Beautiful views. Very peaceful as it was snowing lightly but barely any wind. I would say there was about a foot of fresh snow but who knows. Big banks of snow have formed at certain points from wind so it's hard to tell. But most if not all ground vegetation is completely covered near summit. I was totally fine with microspikes today but you'll probably need snowshoes after this week's coming snowfall. Unless you don't mind postholing. It was snowing hard and sticking as I descended almost all the way back to the trailhead. This was about 4pm.

Beautiful hike that will get your heart pumping! Trail is maintained exceptionally well, view was amazing at the top, and few people on the trail which is good bc there is only parking room for roughly 10-15 cars. I made it up and back in about 2hrs 45 min at a fairly moderate walking pace.

Good condition, just damp enough to keep the rocks and gravel from rolling but not muddy. No snow except for small patches off the sides of the trail at the top. Clear skies and beautiful view! Could even see Hood today.

Great views from the top. Solid workout to get to the summit. One viewpoint in the later half of the hike, which is the only real view you get besides the views at the top. Easy to follow trail. No snow at the end of December except for right near the summit, so don’t need snow gear.

Reached the top only to see fog. We still enjoyed the hike, it was challenging.

Challenging trail because of the incline and navigating some terrain toward the end. Unfortunately I didn't get to see views at the top because of the fog, but it was still beautiful all the way up. Plus, a great leg workout! I was a bit wobbly coming down. Took a total of about 3 hours.

Solid 3-star. Started noon. 2.5 hrs up (with food break) and 1hr 10min back down. No views until the top. Trail nicely maintained by the prison crew that lives at South Fork Forest Camp nearby. Met them on the trail working. Could see the ocean sparkling to the west where the sun sets at 3:30pm up top. Bring binos to see it. At no point did the trail feel sketchy with cliff edges. The viewpoint .5mi from the top, and at the top are the most dangerous spots where if you’re being wild, you can fall and die. But there’s plenty of safe room for scaredy cats like myself- just stay back a bit. The guest notebook at the very top in the wooden box looked as though someone had wiped themselves with it, chewed on it, and set it back into the box.

This trail is beautiful. The beginning of the trail is easy/moderate but as you begin getting closer to the top it gets hard! It definitely pushes you, but the top of the mountain is so rewarding. Overall there were not too many view spots until you reach the top section.

Tolle Wanderung. Atemberaubende Aussicht. War für mich schwierig und eine echte Herausforderung aber es hat sich gelohnt.

Really good, by far the hardest trail I've ever hiked. I felt like I could fly by the end though. There is a time capsule at the peak. Get out there and explore! Hang loose -N

Made it to the top around 10am or so. Unfortunately no view this time, just clouds with lots of wind, rain, and hail.. Poured most of the morning, trail turned into a mini stream on the way down. Saw a tree get blown down about 20 ft away from me which made me rethink getting out of bed. Definitely should have stayed in bed. Heard two other loud crashes during the way down. I wasn't in shape for this hike but I still sent it

Short, steep hike. The views at the top are nice, but not breathtaking. The hike back down is a bit slick, we were glad we had poles. There was a trail-runner's race while we were coming down, and they didn't seem to have much trouble with the descent.

Definitely difficult. First 2 miles weren’t so bad but the final mile stretch hit me hard. Coming down was on wobbly legs

This was a great hike. Challenging w some scrambling going up and I slid a few times coming down. Hiking sticks were so helpful. To the top was a solid 3 miles but worth it to sign the mazama book-so round trip for us was 6 miles.
